Hey y'all, I've been reading the forums for a while now and after the Compal forum was opened I was finally swayed into buying a HEL80. The problem is that I had never really looked closley at most photos of the machine untill I was browsing through the thread that had the tape under the keyboard mod when I realized my HEL80 looks nothing like the models shown!
This is the model I wanted (note - I did NOT purchase from that company)

and this is the model that looks like what I have:

As you can see I'm missing the media center buttons, the copper insert surrounding the keyboard and I believe I may also have a 6-cell battery (as it does not poke out the back). The box I received this in appears to be a box for both the HEL 80 and 81, but it appears the P/N is for a HEL80. I've contacted the retailer I purchased from but does anybody have any other ideas on what's going on here?

Hey SonDogg, you have the VBI version of the HEL80, I would contact the company you purchased it from and see if this is the only version they are selling.

Yep my friend, you have a VBI-HEL80
I have one too,and it's exactly like the 2nd picture, except there is a fingerprint reader between the two touchpad buttons. -
To answer your title question--yes, you do have the HEL80. But it is the VBI (verified by Intel version) that you have. Here are the main differences between the two versions.
HEL80 owner...or not?
