Hey,
So after a couple of weeks of dealing with the screen flickering from normal to a red tint, the backlight finally just stopped working. I proceeded to purchase a new inverter card and I replaced it tonight. I used the disassembly pdf found floating around on the interwebs to do it. Now that I got it all pieced back together, the laptop will not power up.
Plugging both the battery and the AC adaptor in shows that the battery is fully charged. I see this as a good sign. The fact that it will not power up is definitely not a good sign though.
My first assumption was that the control board which has the power button on it was not connected or improperly connected, but it appears to be in there just as it should. In fact, I went back and checked all of the connections and they all look dandy. I'm at a loss right now.
I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a way of testing that control board. If it is fine, then I am assuming I managed to screw up the connection somehow.
If you have any ideas, please post!

It won't power up at all? Or just black screen and fan stops working after 2 - 3 seconds?

Nothing. This is why I believe it has something to do with the small control board housing the power button.

I'd would be strange if you could break that thing so easy... I guess you double checked it's the connection...
Did you unplug the RAM connector or pulled out the memory modules? If so I'd try putting just one in and try to boot... my laptop wouldn't boot at first because of that. -
well, a little update...
took it all apart again. put in the old inverter card back in. no dice. i was forced to take it into a computer shop in town that i trust. its now in their hands...
on a side note, when i brought it in and said that i broke it, the woman at the desk asked if she could get that in writing as she'd never heard anyone say that -
Did you take the whole lappy apart when only replacing the inverter board? If so, only removing the screen bezel would have sufficed.
HEL81: replaced inverter, now won't power up?
