Hi has anyone considered changing the fan/heatsinks in this laptop . I am using a t7200 so can't undervolt the cpu to avoid the annoying fan issue .

My first step will be to put arctic silver 5 on the cpu and gpu but then i will look at what i can do hardware wise

Was just wondering if anyone else had considered or done this to their hgl30 ?

    Thanks

How about updating the bios to see if that helps? I know it does for the HEL80's. Something to consider with the annoying fan issue is that its built to react to changing temperatures, without a program like RMclock to smooth out the CPU scaling, sure it will jump... Something to consider anyways..

Yikes! Sounds like a drastic solution to a little bit of fan noise. I'd give the BIOS upgrades a try before doing anything that would void the warranty.

Fan noise is a fact of life when you have a laptop with this much power in the CPU, GPU, memory and hard drive.

The best solution, as already suggested, is to make sure you have the latest BIOS and then get used to the fan noise and enjoy the POWER :D

I agree here... Imagine you have a 60's muscle car... you don't panic and start stuffing penguins into the exhaust pipes to quiet the noisy thing down! You are proud that your system can rattle old ladies teeth from 2 blocks away! :D

Man! Maybe I should take those penguins out of my tailpipe ;).

But seriously, you can undervolt your processor via RM Clock or Notebook Hardware Control to cut down some of the fan noise as well.

Tried mentioning that, but something about the T7200 makes him think he can't (first post).

    *hint hint hint* :D

I don't think forcing your fans off because you don't like the sound is a good idea at all...

I have to second that statement. If anything, forcing the fan to be on all the time would be the better way to go.

Better still, I'd rather just let the system cool itself as needed.

I was trying to do more than just turn it off. I wanted to run the fan constantly at a lower voltage. But I couldn't find my multimeter so I guessed at the voltages and it ended up being louder then before. I assumed that the fan would normally run at 12v so I hooked it up the the usb 5v. I have to find a way to cut the voltage in half or find another spot to power it.

How about a small pot that you could rig into the tv coax hole?
