    Hi

    Hel80/81 is a great notebook but BIOS in this machine does not offer many options. One of most missed by my was possibility to enable hardware virtualization. However with help of this forum I have found how to enable it:

    1. You need processor with hardware virtualization (like T7200). Do not try without it!!!
    2. Upgrade BIOS to 123B (check Intel site)
    3. Go to http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=189228
    4. In step 6 use following values
      Code:
      (02FD) [0000] ---> (02FD) [0001]
      (0300) [0000] ---> (0300) [0001]
      (0321) [0000] ---> (0321) [0001]
      If those values are not on your computer simply just add them.
    Have fun !!! :)
    Notes:
    • You need virtualization enabled processor. I have one so it worked for me. I don't know how it will work in case of no virtualization on processor. I think it may brick your laptop.
    • (For technical ones) Idea behind those number is described here. "Register" 0x2FD controls whether VT is enabled at all. 0x300 controls bit 2 and controls bit 3 of MSR 0x3A. If 0x2FD is set bit 1 will be set regardless of values in 0x300 and 0x321. Anyway kudos for IntuitiveNipple from wimsbios forum.
    • Why BIOS 123B? I am using it and I have no time checking register values for other versions of BIOSes. Anyway 123B is OK.
    • Phoenix BIOS Editor is available on Compal site.

    It's on by default, but only stuff like vmware can access that, as far as I know only the t7xxx have that, I think the Turion X2 have that too.

    As for Turion I don't know: it's AMD. As for Intel and Core Duo/Solo 2 processors check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Core_2_microprocessors. In section for Dual-Core Mobile processors / "Merom" (standard-voltage, 65 nm) you could see

    Ok, so since my T7700 meets the requirement, then I have virtualization, and now what? What can I do with it?

    I have hel80, but this method does not work.
    I do not have registers (02fd) and (0321) as I will add them manually, then one imports not to bios.

    help me

    I think it makes hardware copy for more than one instances of system to access them at the same time.

    Welcome.
    how have I to start VT on hel80?
    as I added entries
    (02FD) [0000] ---> (02FD) [0001]
    (0300) [0000] ---> (0300) [0001]
    (0321) [0000] ---> (0321) [0001]
    This is nothing happening
    as this later reads them to the file I have only altered registration(0300) [0000] ---> (0300) [0001]
    I do not have a rest
    how to improve?

    YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!

    Changing (0354) [0000] ---> (0354) [00001]

    Did it for me!!!

    In case it helps someone, I'm attaching my current Cmos :)

    Now... where do I go from here since Sucurable show my VT are enabled?
    Can I install XEN, Slamd64, WinXP and play need for speed most wanted all at the same time? or am I tripping?

    So, I own a HEL80, and need to enable virtualization for the new feature of windows 7 release candidate.

    My BIOS version is 112B.

    How could I make it work from my pen-drive?

    The link topic was appointing me to a tutorial for SONY notebooks... since I became confused reading that, I'm now posting here for some resolutions!!!

    Any one could help me?

    I have an apx. 2 year old HEL80 with a T7400 and Pheonix bios 123B. I tried following the instructions in this thread to activate hardware vt but to no avail. On Ubuntu, the kernel has this to say:

    Code:
    $ dmesg | grep kvm
    [ 15.471714] kvm: disabled by bios

    I tried the OP's value changes and also (0354) [0000] --> [0001], but nothing is having any noticeable effect.

    My guess is that the values needed are different for each variant of the T7x00 series. I have no idea how to find out what values need to be changed...there are far too many in the table given by Symcmos to try them all, and that would probably cause some invalid, PC-locking problems to occur, anyway.

    Has anybody found the right values for HEL80 with BIOS 123B and a T7400?

    I have a HEL80 (bios 123B) with a T7600 CPU and the values form the first post did work.

    (02FD) [0000] ---> (02FD) [0001] (inserted at logical position)
    (0300) [0000] ---> (0300) [0001] (was already there, only modified)
    (0321) [0000] ---> (0321) [0001] (inserted at logical position)

    But not the first time. The second time I updated the NVROM twice in a row. Now, Win7's XP-Mode is running without any problems.

    It works now.

    I think somebody may have mentioned this, but it seems the particular values that need to be changed in the BIOS will not take effect until the laptop is COMPLETELY SHUTDOWN. This means a restart will not work.

    Anyway, for those with a T7400, the instructions given in this thread thus far will work for you. Just remember to completely shut down the system after changing settings, or nothing will happen.

    I have a HEL80 with BIOS 123B and a T7400. I followed the steps in the first post exactly and things worked well. I dumped the current values with symcmos , edited them per instructions, and sent them back to the cmos with symcmos, then hit the power button to shut down. Upon powering back up, VirtualBox now reports that VT-x is enabled. Hooray, thanks much.

    My biggest stumbling block was needing to replace the kernel.sys from the odin distribution with the alternate kernel for 386+ at http://fdos.org/kernel/ . Without replacing the kernel my USB key wouldn't boot correctly; it gave some error about DJ mechanism not working correctly.

    hello guys. I know this thread is old, but I hope you can still help me.
    so.. I've spent half of the day updating bios and doing everything I could to get this hardware virtualization to work, but I finally came to a dead end.

    Problem:
    When I use symcmos -v2 -ldefault.txt I get this error (a whole lot of those actually) "Error FFFF reading NVRAM"
    The file is still created and it has similar values like this "(02FD) [0000]" except instead of [0000], it is [7A8C]. for ex. "(02FD) [7A8C]" (attached the file DEFAULT.TXT if you don't understand me).

    I googled all internet for a solution, looking for the error, the descriptions of symcmos errors, pancake recipes, BIOS errors, 7A8C code meaning and got nothing. There is no info about this. I even tried adding the three necessary lines to the default.txt (probably risking to brick my laptop) but it didn't help. I got a similar error, "Error FFFF writing NVRAM" (not sure if it is absolutely correct, but I could get the exact error if needed).

    So, here I am desperate and sad, satisfied only by my lovely pancakes. Do you guys know anything about this?

    I have HEL80 with 123B bios, T7400 processor.

    Hi!
    I dont get a file from symcmos. I think its because i have no write access to ntfs filesystem.
    Which boot cds did you use?
    i googled for many hours now but i didnt find anything that worked for me...
    please give me a link of a working boot image....
    thx

    It worked on my VBI Compal HEL80 with T7600 processor! :)

    1. Create bootable flash-disk using this page, really simple.
    2. Reboot to DOS, dump current CMOS settings to file using "symcmos -v2 -lDefault.txt" command.
    3. Reboot to Windows, manually change/add those 3 values into the saved file, save as "new.txt".
    4. Reboot again to DOS, use command "symcmos -v2 -unew.txt" for loading the new CMOS values.
    5. Shutdown your PC. This is important, just rebooting does not work.
    6. Turn on the PC, change the default boot device in BIOS to HDD and reboot to Windows.
    7. Done, XP Mode in Windows 7 works now :cool:

    Another question, has anybody tried to enable AHCI on VBI Compal HEL80 notebook?
