when i try to play a online game or use ventrilo or teamspeak, my mic sounds Really staticy. I use a Plantronics headset, that works fine with my other computer. The headset sounds fine when i go into the windows sound recorder and try to record my voice. It sounds great and clear. But when i go into Vent or a game, it sounds like im talking through a brillo pad, lots of static and background. can anyone think as to why this would happen. Ive ruled out that my headset was bad... what else could be going on?

mattireland It used to be the iLand..
Could be the interface with the game. Some built-in sound doesn't do that very well.

I also have mic problems, works fine in windows recorder, but not in skype or other applications. Have tried the internal mic, external bluetooth seems to work better
-
Same issues here, haven't found a fix yet.

It's mostly caused by internal interference, and also because the damn thing just isn't very powerful. If you take a gander through the disassembly guide you can see that the power cord to the microphone goes down the back of the screen and underneath the keyboard. The damn thing has a lot of opportunity to collect interference from everything on that trip.
Earlier I was considering wrapping the cord in tin foil, which would remove all the interference, but then one of the keyboard screws fell into my computer and it took me a few hours to fish it out.... after that I lost all nerve in what I was originally doing.
The cord snakes down the back of the screen (in front of a tin foil like sheet, so no interference there) then goes through the right hinge, down to the center of the computer, and underneath the keyboard in a plastic trench. Either shielding that cord, taking it out of its plastic housing, or maybe replacing the microphone that is built in will probably fix the problem.
Some people say disabling the camera helps. Using the 20dB boost checkbox in the volume manager helps a tad.
Heres the thread I posted a month or so back about it : Link -
I'd be more than willing to blame Teamspeak and Ventrillo. I've never had good success with them with sound quality.
How's your stock mic in windows recorder? Mine's always been abominably quiet. -
I know I get a strange reverb type feedback using the built in mic, switching to the Logitech Notebook Premium headset fixed all my recording issues though.. *Shrug*.
I think these on-board chipsets are a bit off-balance.. -
I get the choppy feedback thing with both the built in mic, and an external one. I'd guess it's a problem with the soundcard/drivers and the codecs used in teamspeak/HL2.
