    Hey everyone,

I've had my Hel-80 for about a year now, but I recently reinstalled the operating system. After installing all the drivers, the ethernet card, a Realtek RTL8168/8111, isn't responding to any cable I plug in, continuously saying a cable is unplugged. I update, uninstalled, and reinstalled drivers to no avail.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

Did you install the chipset drivers first? It might be related to that. Was it working alright before the reinstall? It's hard to imagine reinstallng Windows causing your network card to fail outright, but I've seen stranger things so I wouldn't rule that out altogether. When you plug the cable in do you get network activity lights? Does your router, modem, other computer, etc. recognize that the ethernet cable has been plugged into something else when you put it in the laptop? You might try pinging the loopback address, 127.0.0.1 to see if you get a response. It isn't sure fire, but often if that fails it could signal a hardware problem with the ethernet card.

I did install the chipset drivers first, and there is no response when I plug in the ethernet cable. I did ping the loopback adapter, and I thought that it was receiving something, but I unplugged the cable and got the same results.

Interestingly enough though, the first time I reinstalled windows the USB ports weren't working, so I reinstalled it again, and now this isn't working. I did also update the BIOS to the latest version.

I've discovered the problem- the actual input is no longer connected to the motherboard. I fooled around with it some, and there may be some chance of fixing it, but it sucks nonetheless. Thanks for the help guys.

What bios you use? Mine is 122. In my case(have same problem) i think at when i upgrade bios 121 >122 that problem start. Before upgrade wasn't any problem.
This is not depending OS, because i'll have XP and Vista and both have same problem. Some time it fix by unplug net cable and wait, some time just make repair(release/renew)

    Any suggestion?
