I was wondering if I could use the Winphlash utility (while within windows)to update this laptop? Mine was shiped with 102B and there seems to be quite a few revisions since then. I know some of you will say don't worry about it unless your having problems, but this is just a question for now, i might upgrade processor in a year or two.

thanks for the help in advance

No, do not use the Winphlash utility on a Compal laptop.

    Flashing Instructions:

    1. Plug the A/C power adapter into the notebook.
    2. Extract the .zip files to a bootable floppy disk, flash drive or CD.
    3. Boot to the bootable disk or drive.
    4. Type “bios.bat” and wait until it finishes flashing.

Don't fix it if it ain't broke

Just so everyone knows, I was able to use a USB Flash drive to update my BIOS. Was a fairly easy task but you do not type in bios.bat as suggested above.

Ok, I know this may be a bit late of a response, but I just flashed my Compal HEL80 from bios version 102B to 110B using the Windows Phlash utility that came with the bios version as a file. It was easy. Double-click and it backs it up installs the new and reboots. Done. Get the versions here > http://http://www.compal.com/asp/driver_dnd/index.htm

Please keep in mind that unless you are having a particular problem that you know a BIOS upgrade will fix, there is no reason to do so.

Changing your BIOS could potentially cause problems with your systems that did not previously exist. If you must change your BIOS, make sure that you use one from a trusted source.

The system is only a few months old, the BIOS can't possibly be that out of date.

And NEVER use winplash for a bios update also!! Several people already bricked their Mobo's doing that. Always flash in DOS during bootup if u must insist on a bios update.
