Hi, I bought my Hel80 as a battalion model laptop from Cyberpower and my screen seems to have died. It first started when the screen would be pinkish on startup but the pink would eventually fade and the colors would return to normal. Recently the light has died i think too but i can still see things like my desktop and such but only in the correct external lighting. When i packed up to come home from college for xmas break, the screen actually lit up for about 30 seconds then died again.
i was wondering what you guys think the problem is and what i should do? repair, replace, keep using it with an external monitor and completely defeat the purpose of the it being a laptop? from my own limited research i believe it could be a problem with both the inverter and the bulb.

Call Cyberpower for warranty replacement...don't wait until your warranty expires.

Thats the thing, the warranty has expired already. the screen died while i was in college and the last thing i could do was lose my laptop for a week or more. the warranty is now expired, and im just wondering if i should get someone to repair it or just buy a new laptop because my friend said that laptop screen repairs are extremely expensive.

For a new screen you are looking at around $500...maybe a little more.
I hope that helps give you the information necessary to make a good decision. -
Sorry to hear about your problems. The timing could not have been worse for you, it seems.
Personally I would look into a new notebook at this point in time. But you need to make the decision that is right for you. -
looks like its gonna be an expensive christmas for me this year. thanks for the quick replies paladin44 and chrisyano. i might buy something from powernotebooks or some other relatively small dealer, im not a big fan of the big time odms, dell and the like, because they overprice. just looking for a mid to high end laptop that can game but still be portable.

Give me a call tomorrow...I will be happy to help you select one that will fit your needs and your budget...as long as that is not an oxymoron

The LCD panel seems to be OK from what you say (that you can still see the desktop when light reflects the right way)
So, the problem may be either the fluorescent backlight, or the inverter board that feeds current into it. I had a similar problem a few years ago with my Sager. Except that what I got was some flickering, which started to get worse as weeks pased, then the backlight would turn off for a while, and finally it would never come back on again.
I was afraid I was going to spend a lot of money for a "new screen" until I researched on the web and found out about the inverter board problem and saw that they only cost a fraction of a new screen. So I gave it a shot, and with help from donald@powernotebooks I got a new inverter board for around $60, and I changed it myself and voila!!! it worked
In my case, the situation was worse because I don't live in the USA so shipping the whole computer back and forth would be more expensive than buying a new one.
So, investigate a little more and maybe you can fix it with less than $100. In case you are wrong you won't have lost much money comparing to the full price of a new screen -
Continuing Barspi's comments, you may want to call Cyberpower up to find out how much they would charge for an inverter board, and how much it would cost to JUST replace the inverter board, compared to how much it would cost to replace the entire LCD. There's going to be a huge difference in prices, but that will be your "ballpark" figure for repairs.
