Hey I was wondering if anyone could comment on the performance of the HEL80 vs the Dell XPS 1530. Assuming the same amount of ram and same processor I believe the XPS would be better but in your opinion which would be better for gaming and by how much? Thanks a lot

the xps would definitely perform better. the hel80 would probably only win in battery life category.

the XPS 1530 will only lose to the HEL80 when comparing the battery life as mentioned above, other than that..it will win in every other aspect..especially looks and the DDR3 graphics

why not just spend <100 bucks and get 4 gigs of ram for your hel80. you still have a capable laptop.

depends if you like gambling. how good is your screen on your hel80? and how disappointed will you be if you get stuck with a bad screen on a 1530?

Can you post the exact specs of both computers? That is, the hard drives and the screen type in addition to what you've already posted. Also, are you sure the 1530 processor is exactly the same as yours?

If you are getting the GDDR3 8600M GT, then it will be better for gaming than your 7600. But... is it $300's worth better? That's hard to say.

are you trading with somebody or getting it from dell? if you're trading, see the screen for yourself. that might be why they're trading. if you buy from dell, there's been a lot of posts/complaints about screen quality.

Well, it seems like you're getting a better CPU, a better GPU and more RAM. It sounds worth it -- just make sure there is no catch.

the reasons why peeps like the 1530 so much is cosmetic and/or the 8600gt in the 1530 has gddr3 ram boosting its performance a little. if you're not stuck on dell, why not try sager? you can check them out at xoticpc.com or powernotebooks.com. the 8600's in these only have the ddr2 ram. and you won't be taking a gamble on a bad screen AND bad service.

The reason I was looking at dell is because I'm looking to buy used and the dells are plentiful. Any other suggestions?
