    Hi guys,

I have a fairly new (3 month old) Compal Hel 80, core 2 duo, T5500. This morning I wanted to turn it on, but nothing happend! I heard the usual fan noise, but then nothing. When I took the powercord out, the fan came on and kept going, but still no reaction from the machine.

What is going on and can anyone help me?

    Thanks!

First reseat the ram, then check to see if any of the lights(battery/power LED on the front) are on.

Also contact your reseller(person/company you bought the laptop from) for further assistance(i assume it has at least a 1 year warranty)

Reseated ram to no avail. The lights come one very briefly, but then go out fast, like the fan...

CPU socket's lock/cam might have come loose or been poorly tightened in the first place. Someone else battled a startup problem for a long time recently before figuring out that he forgot to turn the cam on the socket...

Well, my laptop returned from the reseller last night. They sent me a new laptop with my harddisk installed, so I still have all my data.
Everything ok, but now I have a problem with my wifi/bluetooth card. Everything gets recognized ok, but the switch doesn't seem to work and no light is coming on.
Anyone have an idea? So I just reinstall the system?

is the wireless switch turned to Bluetooth and wireless (the software program in the system tray)? I remember a post from someone a while ago who said their switch wasn't working, and it turned out that they hadn't turned it on in windows. I just removed the program; i figured it was redundant since the HEL/HGL laptops have a kill switch.

Before you reinstall everything, try uninstalling the intel wireless driver from add/remove programs, and then before you restart, also uninstall the device from the device manager. Then restart, and then reinstall it.

If that doesn't work, uninstall the drivers like I said above, and try drivers from the Intel website.

With the bluetooth, make sure the device is using the drivers provided from the cd, and not the windows provided bluetooth stack. The windows stack is not compatible, but may have been found first and installed. A few people with different machines have had this problem, maybe your computer has done the same (possibly from dumb tech's who installed everything on it)

If all that fails, then I guess you should reinstall windows, though after doing all that it's more likely to be a hardware problem.
