My shiny new Zepto 6625WD arrived today but it isn't booting. :(

After unpacking it, I plugged in the power cord and the network cable and started it up.

I get the Zepto splash screen, then the Broadcom NetXtreme Ethernet Boot Agent screen, then the BIOS (?) screen (gives details of the processor, RAM, etc.), then the Broadcom UNDI PXE-2.1 v10.0.9 screen.

On this screen it comes up with a Client Mac address and a GUID number. It then says on the next line "DHCP" followed by a spinning ascii cursor. After a while it comes up with the message:

    PXE-E53: No Boot filename received
PXE M0F: Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM

I then get a new screen, that says:

"We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change may have caused this." etc.

It gives me the usual options of starting in "Safe Mode", "Safe Mode with Networking", "Safe Mode with Command Prompt", "Last Known Good Configuration", or "Start Windows Normally".

If I leave it to "Start Windows Normally", then I get the Windows XP splash screen, then a BSOD before the computer reboots itself.

The BSOD is only displayed for a brief moment so I am not sure if I have captured all of it, but I think it says:

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drive or hard drive controller. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run chkdsk /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

    Technical Information:

    *** STOP: 0x0000007B [or possibly 78] (0xBACCF524, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

I then tried booting without the network cable connected. This time at the Broadcom UNDI PXE-2.1, v10.0.9 screen, I get the following message:

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE M0F: Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM

Everything else after this happens the same as before, including the BSOD message.

I haven't tried booting into Safe Mode, or using the "Last Known Good Configuration" option, because where this is the first time I have used the machine, I haven't wanted to cause more problems by doing something
I shouldn't, without first getting advice.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi, thanks for your advice. :)

I followed your instructions and this seems to have solved the first part of the problem, but it still won't boot.

It goes straight to the "We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change may have caused this. etc." screen.

Then, as described above, if I choose to "Start Windows Normally" I get the XP Splash screen, followed by a BSOD, and then it reboots itself. I have now also tried booting into Safe Mode, but again, I just get a BSOD and the computer reboots. :(

You might need to look into the Advanced menu of the BIOS looking for AHCI. If that is enabled you need to disable it and then XP should start normally.

That seems to have solved the problem, thanks. :)

Although it leaves me wondering why these settings were wrong in the first place?

Cos these laptops are mean for Vista in first place, but I agree, its wierd that they dont edit the BIOSes so that they fit the system configuration before its shipped

Sprint, there are plans for that but it is still in testing stage as we want it done automatically.
