Hi guys,
I have a few general questions. First off I found out like 10 minutes ago that Zepto are gone. I was surprised, mostly because I had no clue how business was going for them. about 2 years ago, in early 2008 I bought a Znote 6625WD from them that I like a lot. The screen is amazing and the processors good and its very quiet, and I like the fact that the keyboard is white coz it stands out and is easier to read, so overall I'm quite pleased with this computer. Having said that, a few weeks ago, coincidentally around the time when they went bankrupt, it started to give away a very Loud noise, and maintains it to this very moment. Now I'm relatively certain that it's the fan that's making the noise. Something is loose and you can just hear it scratching in there and stuff and when it goes into heavy work its so loud I basically cant hear anything else.
My problem is now that I have no idea how to change the fan, or if I even Can change the fan, and if I can do it then what kind of fan do I need to buy to replace it and how do I install it?
That's the first question. The second one is more of an alternative based one. Since this computer is my one and only main computer, and it's 2 years old and starting to go faulty, and the manufacturer is gone, I need an alternative for the future that is soon to come. Are there any other manufacturers you guys can recommend that are cheap and still offer as awesome computers as this and also let you choose components? I live in Sweden so my first choice would be a Scandinavian company, but European is ok to. Unless you feel it is overwhelmingly worth it to buy from the US or some other continent. The only other company I even know of is Alienware but they strike me as being very expensive and their website is scary, not to mention that the laptops themselves look scary being all black and red and glowing. I like simpler designs, like the one I have now (aside from the silver colored rim it has around). Plus I just fell in love with the screen on my current computer I'm kinda hoping others are using it as well.
So those are my two questions. Anyone able to help out?
P.S. a month or two ago I visited the zepto website and read about their newest products on there, and I saw that their computers had something that allowed for upgrading the graphics card, which is a new concept to me coz I didn't think you could upgrade graphics cards in Laptop, at least not in this price range. Are other companies doing this as well, coz that would be awesome, and would mean that I could upgrade almost ever component of my computer for years to come.

Take off the doors, or whatever you wanna call them, at the back and clean the fan?
-
I already cleaned it. didnt work
-
G0gge Shoot me a PM
-
What for? 0o
-
He's a nice guy who know what he doing and i guess he can fix it? ^^
-
Yes, but Zepto USA is in USA
. Even if he could fix it I have no interest in sending my computer to the US
. And if it's general information then he might as well post it here so others can read it or for future Google reference
.
-
Good point.. Well im just gonna stop spamming your thread as im obviously useless
-
Who said you need to ship to the US. Just trying to help you out here. O well Nevermind.
-
Lol, no no, you misunderstand me, I'm not turning down help. I'm just saying that since I'm not shipping my computer than whatever it is you wanted to say via PM is general information that lots of other European Zepto users could benefit from. But if we use PM then Google can't index it and neither can the Notebookreview forums. So I'm just saying that unless whatever it is you wanted to say is extremely sensitive or specifically centered on My computer then others would benefit from having that posted on here instead of in a PM.
So the question is, what exactly did you want to talk about in the PM? -
first things first.
I can get you some pictures for changing or cleaning the heatsink/fan. Second thing, I asked you to PM about another kind of option, like you asked for other "configurable" laptop manufacturers. We might have something for you. -
Oh, well pictures would be great, please do send that if you can. Also, it appears that the particular fan used in these laptop is unusual and therefor hard to find a replacement. Any suggestions there? I'd like to order it somewhere within Europe if possible, but so far I haven't been able to find it online. But then again I'm not completely sure on the name or model/brand of the fan so I might be doing a bad search. As far as I can tell it says something like "Asuras" on the fan.
And as for other configurable laptops; As I said, I'm only asking about that in case I'm in a need of a new laptop. I'm just asking for general directions so I can look into it, don't need to buy anything right now so no hurry. Also, as I said, I would preferably buy one from a European company. I'd rather not order anything from the US unless you guys really have something truly unique and affordable to offer
? Especially since regional things come into play such as warranty, not to mention parts or even a keyboard in the right language
-
I never said you should buy in the US
...i'll look into the images
-
the scratchy sound is usually due to the oil evaporated from the bearing, I did took it apart completely, and filled it with some oil from my car and it became quiet. Ask someone who's not afraid to break to do it. Just be careful and take loads of photos so you know where everything's going.
-
I don't even know what the bearing is and how its filled with oil or what kind or anything
.
P.S. I just Googled this fan oiling, bearing stuff and it does sound possible that it might be this, but is it a common problem for laptop? And how dangerous is it to oil the bearing? Keep in mind I'm not that good with hardware (meaning I don't know as much about hardware. I'm more of a software guy, programming and stuff). My dad is pretty good with hardware, its sort of in his job description since hes a designer for navigational devices. But either way... is it risky?
Oh and if I do do this, the pictures would be great help to make sure I'm doing it right. -
Am not familiar with the 6625WD but can guess that it uses an ADDA blower type fan with hypro bearing. These fans are not long lived and are prone to failure should the lubrication leak out or dry out. I don't beleive these fans can be disassembled and properly re-lubricated. However, it is possible to spray some dry, teflon lube in the gap between the fan blades and housing. It will quiet the fan for a time but won't last long. The fan shaft is most likely worn out so you'll have to replace with a new fan. If you can post some photos, that would help.
-
Well my dad tried to open it and take a look but he was unable to remove the bottom case cover. So thats what we need help with right this moment, either by instructions or pictures, a guide to how you actually take off the 6625WD bottom cover.
-
Well it's been a while now, I would really appreciate those pictures and instructions. I was planning on opening the laptop up tomorrow and trying to oil the bearing, but as I said I need a guide for this kind of fan and prefferably pictures so I know what I'm dealing with..
-
-
... I don't want to seem impatient here but I really don't wanna risk my computer, so can anyone PLEASE help me out here a bit. All I need is some directions. How to open up the computer and oil the bearing, and where I can get a replacement fan. That's all.
Thanks again. -
The easiest thing to do is go a to specialised computer store and let them have a look at it. Its gonna cost you, but it will probably be fixed the right way.
You also said you are looking for another laptop, just keep an eye on forums after CES next january, they are gonna release a lot of new core i models with new graphic cards and other new stuff like that.
About the graph cards, I don't know any other brands that give you graphci card upgrades like your brand does. But I do know that a few Acer models have replacable graphic cards because they use a MXM slot.
Edit: To get an idea which brands are good quality click the link in my signature.
