I have an Averatec 3700 that I haven't been able to use for 9 months because the plug does not "connect" so I have no power (battery has been long used up). I have tried taking it to local computer repair shops with NO LUCK! Does anyone know how/ where I can get some help? BTW, I think I bought an extended warrenty, but I can't find the paperwork. :)

    Hello Roanna

Is it the power adapter plug(Power brick) or is it the power plug in the laptop itself, if its the plug in the laptop then you might find that part in Ebay. you be suprised what you can find in ebay, the only thing are you willing to crack that thing open? I know it might sound too difficult, but you'll learn alot from it and might have fun doing it :)

It is the power plug INSIDE the computer that is the problem. I will try to find on e-bay. Is there a "name" to use when searching?

I am petrified of "opening" up the laptop - so I'm sure I'll be asking for guaidance! :)

The correct name is dc jack ... the plug is the part that goes into the jack.

    Here is what I found

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320148420615

    and another seller
    http://cgi.ebay.com/Averatec-3150-3...5792106QQihZ008QQcategoryZ31531QQcmdZViewItem

    they are both made for 2100, 2200, 3150, 3200, 3220, 3250, 3260, 3300 (E1200), 5110H, 6200, 6210, 6240, 7100, 7170. But NOT for 3700, a quick look at averatec site:
    http://www.shopaveratec.com/product.aspx?sku=2701548

We find that all these models including 3700 or specifically "3715" use the same power adapter, so there is a big chance that this plug might work, anyway it's cheap enough to give it a shot. Only thing is I am not sure of how easy it is to replace it on the motherboared. I'll try to look into my 2370 and see if its easy.

This is great info! You are right about me not being comfortable, I don't know anything about sodering (spelling?) nor do I know of anyone who has a sodering machine.

You know what is killing me? This laptop has been in a local computer shop for 9 months... he couldn't "find the part"!!!!!

I obvioulsy won't take it to him to fix... I'm in N. CA.... anyone know who does this kind of work?

Consult your Google Gods for .... Averatec Repair. Several links come up. Did you go on the Fremontek.com web site someone else mentioned? I know they sell parts, but not sure if they also do repairs.

Where is your location ? I'm in San Jose. If you're closed, I can help you to troubleshoot or even replace any parts of this laptop.
You have to trace power problem from AC adapter to powerboard then to motherboard, then to power switch to find where the power is cut off.
Power source comes from AC adapter to DC board , then to connector on motherboard; the power is fed to a power switch, then goes back to motherboard. That's why you have to trace one by one to find where is the problem.
If it's only from the DC jack, probably it may cost around $5 to replace this part.
