I have a Compal HEL80 and the adapter went out so I tried to replace it with a third party Universal adapter. A couple of the plugs seemed to fit, and the display would say it was plugged in but it was charging neither the battery or the laptop itself. I played with the power settings a little on the adapter thinking there might not be enough power (from 19-24V) but nothing worked. I knew it wasn't working correctly because the power button would blink when it was plugged in. The computer never reacted in anyway, it just continued running on battery power until it died. Could I have damaged it?

I also wanted to note that the adapter says output 90W Max, which is what the computer calls for, so I thought an overload would be impossible.

My uncle tried the universal on his computer(Sager NP2090) and played with the power a bit also but his computer is running fine. Maybe I left mine on the higher setting too long? I can't really remember.

So now I went out and bought the specific third-party adapter for my computer and it WILL NOT power on. But it works on my uncle's Sager. Could I have fried something? Please help.
