Well, Averatec isn't exactly known for the best quality around. I've heard of many complaining about theirs, but I've also heard of some loving their Averatec. Its nice though to see them branching out. Why haven't these big name companies like Dell or HP made a ultraportable like the 1000 but a budget manufacturer like Averatec has?

    I like it!
any ultra compact has to sacrifice on the keyboard. I believe the compromises here are exceptable. It is much better than my old 3200 series, the backspace key, shift key, space keys are all generous and for the size it will do well. After half a day in an airport you will appreciate the skimpy size.

Oh sure, I love the size of the Averatec 1000. I used to own the Fujitsu Lifebook P5020D, same size and form factor of the 1000. I was used to typing on a regular desktop keyboard, but I got used to the keyboard on my lifebook in two days and in fact liked to type on it even better than on my desktop keyboard! The screen size was a bit small, but I got used to that quickly and cannot use a laptop any bigger than this size, I've been spoiled by it. Its very portable and easy to carry around.
