Hi, I was looking around and couldnt find it. I have heard of the fan issue with it constanltly going on and off and on again. While I have this problem, the fan is so quiet I dont mind much, but I heard there is a BIOS fix for it anyway. I have BIOS version 103A, and was wondering where I can dl a new version or fix, and how to install the new bios or fix. Thanx!

You can find the BIOS here,

    http://www.compal.com/asp/driver_dnd/

You will need to navigate to the correct model on the left hand side.

    Cheers.

Forgot to mention, to flash the Bios there is several methods, well 1 less considering that the 30 doesn't have a floppy, the easiest way is to use the included winflash utility that comes with the BIOS.

    Cheers.

it would seem to me they just recently updated the bios version again. the newest version is 111A. not much is written in the release notes, so it's gonna be one of those things u put on and see what happens.

again, it'll be safer if u can make a dos boot cd or something similar.

I have never gotten the Winflash to work when updating the bios but I'm fairly new at this. Exactly what are the steps to accomplish this?
    Thanks

OK, got a new 256MB jump drive and used Flashboot to format it. I now have the capability to use this drive to boot from. Now, how do I get the new bios files I need on it? I downloaded the 111 bios zip file from Compal which contains several files once I unzip, which do I drag over to the usb drive, obviously not the readme, and phlash?
    Thanks,
    Carbpow

You just copy them over. On mine I needed:

GL30-110.bat (the batch file you run to actually flash the BIOS)
GL30-110.WPH (the BIOS image file you're updating to)
PHLASH16.EXE (the BIOS flashing program, needed by the .bat file)

Just put all those on the USB drive, and type "GL30-110.bat" at the command prompt when you boot up. You may need to press F12 as the computer boots so that you can select the USB key as your boot device. It's not too tough.
