I thought I read a thread or two on this but they didn't mention Hibernate being a problem so figured I'd post.
Anytime I sleep the laptop by closing the lid or hibernate it, it doesn't come back out of it. Opening the laptop leaves the screen blank, no matter how many/what buttons are pressed. Hibernate is different, it comes on but the screen is covered in this crazy red lined pattern, looks outta the matrix. I need to update the bios, perhaps that'd fix it, but I can't really figure out how...tried to make a bootable CD but running the flash gave me some 'could not be found' message. Any help appreciated, thanks!

If Vista, look at the Microsoft patches mentioned here.
If XP, Google for XP hibernation. Microsoft has issued various XP hibernation patches in the last year or so.

For the screen to come back on when closing the lid in XP, use MS patch KB923232. My screen kept off after opening the lid and when it was off from idling. That patch solved it.
Hibernation problems...don't know really how to help you.

Hmph, it said both of those patches don't apply to my system... I'm running Vista 32, not sure why it doesn't agree with me

For flashing the BIOS better use the HP format utility and boot from an USB drive (better than CD). Probably the BIOS script is missing the name of the file, edit it to confirm what it does.

I am running BIOS 1.10

I was having the same problems in Vista32 with bios 1.10. Updating the video drivers seemed to fix it for me.

Mine does it too.
If it goes into deep sleep like that hit fn and F1 to put it to sleep.
Then hit esc when your power light flashes.
Then swipe your finger.
And it's like it never happened. :]
