Ok, so.. I know this thing is a beast. And, ive spent all day getting my software setup.. testing and tweaking drivers.. and ran a couple benchmarks here and there. Now, here's my dilemma. I think my temps are a bit high, compared to people saying they never exceed 60..or even 70. Here's a rundown on the temps after running 3dmark06 @3.3GHz with the x9100:
ACPI: TZ00 = 85c
CPU: Core 1 & 2 = 80c
GPU 1: 82c
GPU 2: 84c
Now, I'm not thinking that it should run this hot. All of my drivers are updated to the most current available. My fans spin up somethin crazy once things hit 80c.. Now, what I am trying to figure out is the airflow with this thing.
Warm air should be coming out of the vent on the left side vents, yes? Also, I notice warm air blowing out of the rear right vents, when the fans aren't spun up. Now, when everything gets going.. more air escapes the left vents..and it seems that the right rear vents are SUCKING air. Is it supposed to do that? I mean, is it blowing hot air all the way through this thing and out the left side? If anyone is familiar, please..gimme a heads up. I'm about to flip it over and open it up so that I can inspect it. But, wanted to know if there is a problem. Thank you.

You are running pretty hot there.
* Booting up now to check air flow. -
Blowing air out the far left. Blowing out the air on the back left and couldnt tell about middle one. I am trying to get them to trun on full blast. they Dont run that way often.
-
hmm..what if ya run 3dmark?
-
Im loading it up now. Was just giving you a prelimenary report.
-
Ok middle back is blowing, left side is blowing on 2nd part of 3dMark (Test 2) and it hasnt kicked into only kicked into full blast for a short moment.
Keep in Mind mine also had Marks custom cooling job done to it.
Back left is taking in air I beleive. -
yea.. I hear ya. Maybe I should have too
So, what about if you run something GPU intense, your temps dont get up to 80s? It's odd.. It is blowing out the back right now.. where it's supposed to.. but, when the CPU and GPU fans spin up together..it seems like its taking in from the back. Lemme try again..then Im gonna open it, examine..and report back. Thanks hoop

heres what i maxed at during 3d06
my gpu has always spiked around 80c,but my cpu and acpi dont get near that -
How come my hwmonitor doesn't show my ati cards?
-
alpha, you got that OC'd? Hmm.. maybe I should reapply AS5. Will look into it tomorrow. I think I know what happened. Anyhow.. Thanks for the help.
-
If you have it OC'd I would get a nice laptop cooler for it, just in case.
-
i think they're getting cooler temps because of the heatsink mod.. but nevertheless, a notebook cooler might be able to bring the temps slightly down..
did anyone of you use notebook coolers when taking temp measurements? would be more informative if that was stated. ty -
negative on cooler for me and i was oced at 3.3
-
Ok..
TZ00: 79
CPU1: 75
CPU2: 76
GPU1: 79
GPU2: 80
Guess that's a little better. I think I need to replace the thermal compound on the northbridge. The crappy purple thing that came on it from the manufacturer, it seems like some cheap stuff. I slightly modified the cooling system myself.. removed the filterlike stuff that was covering some of the ventilation on the base. Only removed the part over the RAM, and then the rear, middle screen behind the GPU fan.. I dont want to take away the backpressure of the system by removing it all.
I think the temps will drop after a few uses.. I reapplied AS5 to the CPU..also replaced the thermal paste on the GPU heatsinks, and trimmed the thermal pads that surround the GPU heatsink. Thanks for the help guys.. appreciate it. -
alright, do update us with the temperatures after you've used them for awhile
-
What is exactly the heatsink mod? What is that mod? What is different from the non mod ones?
-
how come my CPUID HWmonitor doesn't show?
What version u use? I use the latest already.
High OCZ temps? Need someone with same rig to confirm..
