well, in order to sell notebooks at a cheaper price Averatec certainly must cut corners on the quality of parts it includes in its notebooks and the build and casing are not as sturdy as some other major manufacturers, but if you are careful and take care of a notebook and don't travel around with it all over the place (which tends to cause a notebook to get beaten up) then there's not a reason it couldn't last 3-years, although generally 3-years is the expected lifespan of a laptop...they're not like TVs that tend to last 5 - 10 years. Another factor is how much you use a notebook, if it's everyday for 8 hours or more then the lifespan will be reduced.

Thank you very much for that info. Based on what you said the notebook is not a very good workhorse so i guess my next question would be i am going to be burning a lot of dvd so i need a burner. Would it be wise to use a external burner so it could work with both my notebook and my desktop. This i think will take some pressure off my notebook. Do you think that this is a good option?

I really wouldn't worry about over using the DVD burner, those things are rated to do more work than they ever see.

If you want to be mobile with it, get the internal. If you are not moving it much get an external, it will be faster. They do make slim external one as well.
