i'm in. if i get instructions and pictures on how to do it. i am a visual person so pictures with detailed instructions is a big help. i don't mind doing it to my cards. (it would be better if someone else did so i know if i am doing it right.) but if no one else will step in i will(you to mr moo.) :)

i have the exact same cards you do. trust me i already checked. my slave will now not flash either. but im not taking it all apart yet i have way to much stuff on it. i have to do a backup and put new hdd's in it before i mess with it like that. i have some blank drives here for that..

    hi guys,
just wait a little bit and be not so happy...

The first problem was the Write Protection of the readon bios.
I looked for an IC who could be an EEPROM on the video card.
And I found this atmel product. I was thinking it was the at24 familly. And the WP for this IC was the 7. Wait and see I'm looking other serial EEPROM atmel product and if I can found identifial number for this IC. Now I think that the IC is a "AT25" familly who provided more memory up to 256Ko it's also in SO-8 package but the pinout is different... and the protection too...

    http://www.atmel.com/dyn/resources/prod_documents/doc5165.pdf

I will try this way for my cards... and post some pics... The package is small than be carefull to do not any short-cut.

I will do that when I will have more time... And give you some news...

    Hi guys,
    some news...
I'm sure now thas the bios is a Atmel AT25FS010 Serial Flash device...
I don't have lot's of time these days, but I will try probably next two week to verifiy if there is a hardware and perheaps software protection...

    Hi guys,
    some bad news...
I test the EEPROM chips, and there is no hardware protection. The write protect is disable.

And atiflash can flash this chips. The way now is soft protection.

But I don't know if it's a problem on atiflash or it's a tatoo sequence in the rom who don't allow to write the EEPROM.

Perheaps a way, there is three different SPI support in the chip, and perheaps atiflash don't use the good one.

And another way there is a BLOCK WRITE protection for upper 1/32, 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 or the entire memory array who is
enabled by programming the status register. Separate write enable and write disable instructions are provided for additional data protection.

I'm not so good in programming than if there is somebody who can explore that way It's will be great...

you need someone who sucessfully flashed there bios to try if it isn't any hardware protection on it?

unless there is a better program. or we need XP.(because the new version is the only one that uses vista x64.) or perhaps x86 vista.

maybe this job could be done on linux?

No no there is any hardware protection it's just in the status register who allow to access on protected memory blocks...

    The problem is really software...

no sorry for not being clear. what i mean is do you need a bios from someone who already flashed it because maybe they have the bios without the security.

sorry i'm new at this so you maybe have answered my question.

So is this method working for non Alienware customers? And how do we find out? I really cannot afford to fry my cards atm , but i really would like to get ATI overdrive to work, using amd tools to reclock everytime is getting old.
