I am trying to install the new ATI drivers (the ones on the Averatec site are old) on my 6130. After running the install I get an error saying:

    ---------------------------
    Severe
    ---------------------------
    INF error

    Video driver not found.
    ---------------------------
    OK
    ---------------------------

    Then the installtion program closes.

How do I force the new drivers in?

Also, I know there are a few different driver manuf. out there, but I need the ATI drivers for a program I run.

    Thanks in advance,

    phreaq

as for that link, that's exactly where I went, and that's the drivers that give me that error I mentioned

    1) don't know what operation system you are using so lets aasume XP.
    2) Not sure what Video card you have but I will assume radeon mobility 9600

    Go to this link

    https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=27

    Pick XP

    Pick the radeon catylyst drivers

Save to your pc (do not hit run, safe the file to your pc)

When the download is done open the folder

Double click on the file you just downloaded and click install.

Did you remove the old drivers first? And have you tried the Omega drivers? I installed these with no trouble after having removed the old ones first. Mind you, I have no idea if they give better performance or not because I didn't do the relevant tests first to compare.

The Offical ATI drivers will NOT install on a mobile chipset. ATI doesn't offer support for them. BUT YOU CAN INSTALL IT with a little bit of work (i have the offical 5.4's installed on my 6130). There's a program called Moblity Modder. This will modify the driver and add support for your Moblie card. The instrutions are on the websight with the download link.
    Here it is.

Seems strange that they won't release drivers for mobility chipsets. Anyway, I seem to recall having a problem with that modding tool with my old Radeon IGP345M, even though it's supposed to support it. I had some contact with Patje, he's a really helpful guy but for the life of me I can't remember whether I got them to work or not....or whether I just went with the Omega drivers.

I would just go with Omega. From what I've heard, these are the only modded drivers that ATI approves of - at least they've praised them at one time or another....

    Hey guys,

I used the Moblity Modder, and it worked like a charm! Thanks wolfskinbjc :D

I didn't wanna go with the Omega drivers cuz my CAD package won't support them.

    thanks again all!

Wolfskinbjc's tip has to be the best one I have ever received from this site. I'm running the new Catylst drivers on my 6130 and I think they made a big difference. I was running the Averatec ATI drivers before. Now I don't seem to have the recurring problems with anti-aliasing that I used to have. One thing to note about the 6130, you can't do anti-aliasing higher than 2x at 1280x800, which I use for some games. It seems the "application preference" setting doesn't work to well because of this.

I've used Omega drivers exclusivly for years now. If you check out the read me on his site for the details, you'll see they're good for mobility too.
