This feature plays Audio-CDs and makes a direct link to Windows Media Player to play CDs, mp3s and a direct link to the DVD software for DVD play.

To find the directions on how to use this feature make a new folder for Compal HEL80 in your My Documents. Then put your drivers CD in and once it starts click on the HEL80 picture. On the next page that loads scroll down and click on the "Download" under where it says "For HEL80 User's manual download". Download it into your new Compal HEL80 folder.

Go into that folder and double click on the file "HEL_80_Online_Help.chm". Then click on the Search tab and type in Media and select and double click "Audio DJ Buttons". The directions on how to operate it to play CDs, mp3s, and DVDs are then displayed.

The CD and mp3 player uses the Windows Media Player. DVDs will use your installed DVD software.

I need to apologize to all for taking so long to get this information to you, and also for previously representing that this feature worked without booting into Windows. The fact is you DO have to be in a Windows environment for these convenience keys to work, but I think you will find that it is a lot easier to use these buttons to control your media play.

Great giblets, Batman! Looks like Compal pulled an ASUS! I wonder why the media key powers-up the computer at all, unless well-intended plans at Compal left a half-finished idea in the notebook, sort of like the physical footprint of infrared but no actual infrared hardware. Or maybe they didn't want to pay the licensing fees for an onboard DVD decoder.

I would like to report that you don't have to boot into Windows to use the media keys; the only catch is you'll need to boot into Ubuntu Linux (or some other distribution, but this is my one of choice) and the keys will work. :p

    Hi,

I just bought a HEL 80 and I would just like to clearify a couple of things. The DJ buttons are only for Windows use, correct? There is no IOMP (Instant On Media Player) on the HEL80, Correct?

    Thanks for any reply's

And I suppose there is no way to let the keys control an other program for Audio? Like Winamp?

No, you are correct. What may look like the infrared port is actually for the TV Tuner
