just came across a site called "i buy power", was wondering? is it a computer brand or is it just a computer custom builder? are such places trust worthy sources of a inexpensive gaming laptop?
here is a link www.ibuypower.com

It's a custom builder. However, I think that if you live in US/Canada, you should be able to build a better machine at Dell at a cheaper price.
The security certificate of the site looks safe. So, I suppose it is safe to purchase from there. -
stay away from them!
take a look at avadirect.com instead -
or xoticpc.com
Have you considered gentechpc.com -
Did a search on google and first thing that came up was ibuypower.com, which has the description:
Custom build high-performance gaming computers, gaming notebooks, media centers, pocket PCs and workstations.
I'm not sure if it's a reliable source for laptops since another search for ibuypower reviews turned up this: http://www.resellerratings.com/store/iBUYPOWER

I am using a laptop from IBuyPower, they have been nothing but good to me. No defective product. I think that desktops are the only thing they have problems with, but all laptop reviews have been perfect. I got my custom laptop for slightly under $1300, came in tact and I'm loving it!

even so... i personally don't have good luck and don't take chances on expensive electronics. -
Well, if you take a site like resellerratings, you will only see negative feedback: this is because they wanna tell SOMEONE about anything bad. You never even think about the good, and no one posts about the good of the company, they're too busy enjoying their new toy. So that's why they have low score, but compare the few hundred reviews to the hundreds of thousands who've boughten from them.
Everyone deserves a chance, no? Even if you look at the resellerratings, and someone says they suck because they forgot to ship X part or didn't ship it in X time, they usually reply and try to correct the situation. They are getting bombarded with sales, it's hard to keep up. They are also really cheap, and have a good warranty. And if you still think he shouldn't buy from them, just remember DELL has a lower score than them on resellerratings  -

I don't have personal experience with them, but in the most recent issue of Maximum PC, the IBUYPOWER gaming desktop got low scores in all the categories of comparison with like 5 others.....I don't know about their laptops...

ibuypower just builds off of msi, clevo, and asus barebones.
and i would disagree that only negative reviews are on resellerratings.com. newegg.com, powernotebooks.com, xoticpc.com are just a few that have stellar ratings. -

in the gaming magazing 1up.com, they have ads with their desktop pc. Lowest prices I even ever seen for what they are offering.

I had a laptop from them which was a big headache. I had sent it in for a screen issue (10+ bad pixels, uneven backlight) and they had the notebook for over a month. I got the laptop back and the screen wasn't fixed. They insisted that nothing was wrong.
Great systems, but god help you if you have a problem/warranty claim. My sig says it all.

i guess i'll throw in my experience w/ them cause i ordered a custom built laptop from them 4 yrs ago...
Pros-- Configured the laptop (over the phone) and got it in my hands from Cali to NY in 6 days.
-- the build quality still blows my mind to this day. i've never dropped the thing but am very impressed w/ how they put it together. solid as a rock.
-- competitive pricing. at the time, when i configured it the price was the best out there for a gaming laptop compared to other vendors for the same specs, i saved hundreds of dollars by going w/ them.
-- 1400x1050 15" not 1 dead pixel, even 4 yrs later.
-- in this day and age of HORRIBLE tech support, i was very delighted when i had an issue and had to call their number and someone picked up in 3 rings like you were calling your friends house. makes a HUGE difference when the company is North American based and build everything on site in the states.
--can still play a few modern pc games!
Cons--Out of the box, the internal wireless card didn't work. so the 1 and only call i ever made to them in 4 yrs was to tell them about my wireless problem. the manager immediately told me if i wanted to purchase a separate pcmcia card instead of returning it to them, he'd refund that difference to my credit card...and he did. i never had to call them back for anything.
--they didn't offer drivers on their site, instead they sent me to the motherboard manufacturer (Mitac) and all the drivers were located there. however they are the same drivers from 4 years ago!! don't know if they have updated drivers these days or not.
--the display has dimmed considerably over the years.
--the toshiba hard drive died at 18months, i simply replaced w/ a new seagate one and haven't had a problem since.
--battery holds only 30mins of charge, but that is the same w/ ALL batteries after many years of use.
other than that, i've hauled this 8.5lbs beast to and from work for 4yrs and every time i hit the power button...it turns on and runs XP beautifully.
i've since gotten 2 new laptops so this one sits in my bedroom and used to stream music while i make sweet love to whoever joins me.
do i recommend ibuypower? HELL YEAH!
the one in my sig was named Maximum PC's editor choice when it came out.
oh and it is the same build quality and pretty much the same laptops as the VooDoo laptops for $1,000's less.
if anyone has any further questions, please feel free to ask me.
