I decided to upgrade my mother's laptop with the fastest CPU and the maximum memory. The CPU, the Athlon 64 mobile 3400 worked fine, though the CPU cooler seems to have been designed for the Sempron. The other, more pressing issue I have is that the laptop would not POST with the 2x 1GB DDR 400 modules I got for it. My questions are:

Can anyone confirm that the laptop supports DDR400 memory? In both 512MB and 1GB versions? Does it support 1GB 333MHz DDR?

Is there another BIOS after the one that fixed the SP2 issue (11-05)?

The 5400 still has its orignal hard disk in it, but we cannot find the recovery CD, if there ever was one. Is there recovery software hiden on the disk? How is it accessed?

What version and build of Windows XP Home did it come with?

I did determin that the ram modules are bad, as one of them would at least freeze at the POST screen.
