Hypersonic (top model laptop) gives a screen that is 17" and 1920x1200, but the problem is: it's 25ms.

That kills the whole thing, because although it can have up to a p4 3.8 em64t and 4 gigs of ram, that all goes to nothing if you want to play games on it on a 25ms monitor.

Although there are some rare 25ms monitors that are playable without ghosting, I haven't heard anything yet about Hypersonic's LCD on their top laptop.

Is there any laptops that offer screens, even around 12-16 ms and are fully playable with games? ( + have the specs of upgradeable to something really powerful )

    Thanks

As far as I know, only 2 companies manufacture 17" WUXGA laptop screens. Either Samsung, or LG. Both are featured on the Inspirion 9300 and the XPS2, and some ppl complain about the LG for it's "sparkles", while some doesn't see it as a problem at all. I think it's more of a personal taste than any actual defects.

Unfortunately, BOTH screens are rated at 25ms. So there really isn't a "faster screen". Now here's the interesting part: *why* do you need a faster screen? At 25ms response time, assuming it's a meaningful number (grey to grey, which most likely isn't the case anyway), you get a frame rate of 40 frames a second. This is *more* than adaquate -- considering a movie that you see in the theater is only 24 frames per second, and TV programs are shown at 30 frames per second.

I have the Inspirion 9300 with the 17" WUXGA panel (the LG one), and I've played HL2, Doom3, among others. I can say that the screen's refresh is adaquate for games. :)

    cheers,

    yass
