I want to buy from Powernotebook but they don't ship to Canada.

How do I buy from Canada? Milestone PC and BizCom only sell barebone kits which means I have to buy all the parts, get them shipped to me, and then terribly screw up because I have never built a barebone kit before :(. How can I just buy a workable notebook and get it shipped to me? That would be really cool :p :) :)

    Thanks

FYI Milestone assembled mine (hel80) However I haven<t seen any hgl30 on their website. NCIX sells it and charges 30$ to assemble it. But before you buy from there I suggest you call em to see what kind of a hard time you will get reaching them on the phone. (once you reach em they do give service but it can take hours of ending in broken voicemail, or staying on a waiting line for hours...)

    Otto.

On a sidenote I think Xotik pc ships to canada and I heard the service is quite good. Justin could probly fill in the details on this one.

AWesome thanks buddy! I emailed BizCom and the representative told me that they supply frontier PC so I suppose I could give that a try also. THanks for everything

I don't know if I should step out line because I myself am not confident with this seller nor his price...I guess PM me if you really really want to know. But, if the mods say no, I guess I can't help much. But, the sellers here on the board are great people. I would support them. Unless you want to buy within Canada.

mythless, that user has been banned for spam via PM. But that doesn't mean that you can't check them out as customers. Just make sure to do the proper research on them as a company so that you don't get hurt. We'd hate to see anything like that happen to any of our members.

I think the fact that most of the respected resellers in Canada don't carry the models must say something about Compal distribution in Canada. It's just not in place yet--so anybody offering it may be doing something different.

Ya, I know what you mean. I did email the guy and asked him "some" questions. But, I wouldn't recommend him to anyone at this point. Unless they really, really, really x 100 desperately want it.

Firstwave: I did check out frontierpc and they do have it, but I am not sure if they will ensure/build the whole unit. But, they do have it! Also try looking at other sites like was it directtiger.ca? Or have a look at:

    http://www.pricenetwork.ca/

For other sellers. But, I would trust the sellers here on NBR than other merchants. They are swell people. But, each has their own situations.

Thanks mythless and chris. I am not that desperate for hgl30, I just really like it because it has everything I need and it's pretty cheap. My previous choice was Sony Vaio SZ and it's much more expensive. I have emailed xotic PC and frontier PC regarding buying the parts and have them assembled for me. I don't mind doing it on my own either, but the warranty might be kinda weird if I assemble it myself. I am not in a big hurry to buy a notebook right now because I am still in my year one university.

Well, from my understanding. If they don't build/test it before they ship it out, its most likely they will not warranty the whole unit (the resellers). Rather you would have individual warranty for each part you bought and have to deal with each company separate. Therefore, if you are like me, not very good with computers, I would get it from a seller who would, i.e. xoticpc, powernotebooks and etc...

Nope :p, but since I am not gonna buy it anytime soon, I could wait until compal gets more popular in Canada :)

Mythless, did you ever know that you reply hella fast? :D

Considering that the HEL80 seems to be outselling the S96J/Z96J from what I gather, I wouldn't be surprised to see distributors and resellers pick the Compals up in Canada.

I agree. Hopefully more distributors will pick the up. Apparently built and warrantied compals are quite expensive (trust me on this one!), well a bit (to a lot) more expensive compared to the US market.

Actaully is it really better to buy it in Canada? The tax is pretty high in Canada whereas it's a lot lower in US right? So the shipping cost from US to Canada might be lower than the overall Canadian tax. :p

I know nothing about tax so I am just hypothesising :)

Well, it can be cheaper if you built it yourself, for sure. But, other than milestonepc, some places are way too expensive. I'm like talking ~2300+tax 6% outside ontario (though shipped) expensive, and it doesn't include 3 years warranty, bluetooth and doesn't have (or will) matte screen.

    It depends where you buy.

Superior Computers in London, Ontario are marketing HGL30's under their own brand name with a 3 year warranty. Maybe they'll ship you one. I have no connection with the company, I just happened to be in their store one day and noticed some new laptops there. I asked who was making the cases for these new laptops - he said Compal. Searching the Compal main website revealed no images matching what they had on the floor at the computer store. So searching this site for references to Compal HGL30 revealed a link to a company called Marasst which distributes the HGL30. Checked the site and bingo! found an image of a laptop with a teal coloured cover which looked identical to the ones being sold by Superior Computers.
