As the title says: I wish I had never bought a Zepto...
There are several things that trouble me about my 6224W, including poor build quality, stutter problems, a heck of a noisy keyboard, paint comming off the edge, fan too noisy, AND NOW... I can't even play games anymore.
I open up a game and about 15 minutes later my laptop shuts down instantly.
After the crash it won't turn on again, every time I try, the lights just blink a single time and nothing happens. A few times I managed to turn it on right after the crash, but with nothing happening on my monitor.
If I let the laptop sit for about 5-10 minutes I can turn it on again.
Sounds like heat issues? ...well... isn't it just Zepto in a nutshell :S
And I know from hard earned experiences that if I send it in to Zepto, I won't see my machine again for 2 months, which is simply NOT an option for me at all.

Originally I had put my Zepto up for sale, but that won't even be possible anymore with this kind of error...

Can it really be, that Zepto can get away with selling such utter crap?

One thing is for sure, I bought my last Zepto ever, and this wasn't my first!

So what do you say? sounds familiar with the earlier 6214 heat issues? and is this really fair towards customers?

Poor build quality... haha explain :)

And why complaining here... We can't do anything about it... Contact Zepto!

    Sounds like a heat-issue or a driver-issue..
Clean your fan.. Update your videocarddrivers...

    Goodluck!

Poor build quality equals: too much flex when you push down on the lid of the laptop and creaking sounds comming from it, oh and did I mention the paint comming off?
I already know that you are pleased with your Zepto, but I just know too many people with problems, and thus I put it here, because I hope someone will think twice before getting one.

    @CLB-NL

Im starting to think that you just dont know better, and that your meaning "running great" differs quite alot from others... because the fact is, comparing with alot of other laptop brands, even earlier zepto models, that the 6224/6324 and the 6225 are having problems beyong whats acceptable!

And yes, the build quality is horrible! outside and inside. The keyboard has a soft backside which makes to way too flexi, and since it aint secured at the right side due to dvddrive, it can move quite alot.

Inside its a sad story too, i know too many at this point experiencing the assembling is simply too bad, like things go just too fast, one even missed a screw! Such things just arent acceptable, no matter....

Did I know what I do now.. very few months back, id have my laptop returned right away, but unfortunately im stuck with it, and I thereby need it.
And I intend to use it for what I bought it for, which I can only by 30% right now... So until things get fixed, zepto will hear from me :) over and over...

And please drop the silly standard "update your driver, it sounds like heat" you know you do people no good with it.. so just leave it.

This is not intended to start a flame or anything, but its not the first time people gotta hear how happy you are with your zepto, rather than actually getting help with their quite serious problems, which you apperently dont seem understand is there.

I have to agree with Nania in choice of venue to complain in, while it seems
he's already done so to Zepto, doing so here can help may some potential
customers look more closely at their purchases. Hearing the good AND bad
    really helps.

If I had read more negative feedback here in the forums prior to my purchase
of our 6625wd laptops (we own 2), we could've potentially saved ourselves
    some heartache.

Just my 2 cents, but negative feedback seems to be as valuable as positive,
and despite my recent negative feedbacks in the forums, there's a whole lot
of positive points to Zepto... in my opinion.

I believe Nania is not all wrong. I am a university student and use this laptop a lot for all my assignments..this implies that i use a lot the laptop's keyboard. Well the keybpard is a little too soft however... i had to get used to it and actually i am fairly happy with it even though i believe there is room for improvment especially for such a machine!!. On the other hand the build quality is good (not excellent...but good). However Nania i must say that there are very few companies that offer such configurations for such little money...I have friends who have bought Dell, Apple and Toshiba for nearly the same price as mine , and have very very lower specs (obviously they paid money because of the brand).

By the way the service is not horrible (At least here in Malta) i mean there are other survices that are worse, for example Toshiba. A friend of mine bought a toshiba and on that same day he was back to the supplier because the laptop could not switch on. The salesman told him that they had to take his laptop and send it back to the factory to see what was wrong...when it came back they told him that something was wrong with the graphics card. I have also heard of cases were Toshiba lost even notebooks.

Why am is saying all this? Well ...yes Zepto is not the best, but unlike other companies it is only a couple of years old, and by what i read (which is not a lot) it is not doing bad at all. I believe Zepto will be very succesful in the upcoming years here in Erope as it already is.

Nani i hope your laptop fixed in some way. Keep posting ....all i can tell you is that the people in this forum are very nice and helpful.

    Regards

I bought my Zepto straight away when it came out, so I could have gotten a similar configuration with another brand for just a bit more, but I had positive experinces with Zepto back then. That's why I chose a Zepto.

However, I spoke with Zepto and told them about my machine and temperature readings when it shuts down.
    cpu: 98 gpu:111
He told me that it's supposed to shutdown at 107 on the gpu, so I needed to send it in for new artic silver (big surprise...)
Seeing as I can't be without the machine now, I'll have to wait for an opening to appear, a rather large one, as he told me to expect 15 workdays. (and past experiences shows that it's usually double that)
It almost sounded like it was expected of the machine to have to be send in once in a while for new paste.
So there's no gaming for me until I send it it... bleh

Agreed. i wouldnt say a game jumping 30-60 fps is running great for example. I can't for example play DoD: Source as I was hoping for. The game is only playable in a 60 fps constant, if you ask me. Same with CS: Source or ANY other FPS-game. UT2k4 runns in highest and in perfect constant 60 fps. AWESOME gameplay there. Such fast and intense game can't be played with the smallest fps drop. Therefore I'll have to wait a year, to when I buy a new computer, to start playing UT3.

The time that it takes Zepto to service computers is a cause for concern. Among my previous computers have been Dells. I recall getting Dell computers back from return-to-base repairs within 3 working days of collection. Zepto should be able to offer this service within Denmark.

I really haven't got any of this problems...
I have it now for 8 months and it's still as beautiful as when I've got it!

But if I say something like that I'm not allowed to say that and blablabla... :(
    Offcourse that's quite nice :)

Pfff that's not nice  I haven't got any problems with it... Maybe strange for you and your problem-friends but it is running 100% correctly and if I say that I'm getting banged...
That could be and that's why I've made as much benchmarks as I can...
I can say I play Crysis very nice with 20fps and if you don't like 20fps you know the fps of that game and so on...
I've had an Zepto Znote 6214W and that was also a nice laptop ;)

I'm not experiencing that... Moving keyboard, yeah right

That's true! I don't know friends which own a Zepto so can't say anything about that!

That's fine offcourse! I should complain as much as you if I had a Zepto with problems

It are only suggestions.. so just leave it

I understand you don't want to start a flame war, but 'blablabla you only speak good about Zepto' and 'blablabla CLB with his great Zepto' is bull****
My Zepto is 100% correct and when I say that it POINT

@ Christophergrant: You're right! Negative and postive! Offcourse :)

That's why my benchmarks... So you can see if you like the fps and so on :)
UT3... It plays at 1440x900 with a fps of 34.. Yeah and if you don't like that...
Buy a XODD with 2 8800GTX in SLI or something like that

CLB-NL: A major issue is that alot of people aren't able to play games really, because of stutter, so "smooth" is non-existant :p

Yeah I know and I don't like that kind of posts..
But when I give my opinion I'm getting 'attacked' and I
only give my opinion and I am allowed to give that so :)

@ Nania: And that 'stutter' is caused by...
    - The poor heat exhaust of this Zepto..?
    - The poor 'power' of the GO8600M GT 512MB DDR2..?

I am in no position to say what the stutter is caused by :)
I kinda expect Zepto to deal with that :D

Stuttering is caused by flaws in the Santa Rosa platform. But it should be fixed with the latest BIOS update.

At least on the 6x25 models, the stuttering should be dealt with in the latest BIOS on the Zepto FTP.

Well it is not.. actually nothing has changed on that subject from the very first bios and the very latest for 6224/6324. Tested them all.

You might be right about the 6x24 series. To be honest i haven't heard of stuttering issues on those models. Only sudden FPS drops due to the CPU clocking down.

Doesn't drop on mine due to CPU clocking down. I've checked, many times. It drops after about 10-15 mins gameplay then jumps all over the place. And as the 6x24W uses the santa rosa platform, surely the bios' are based on the same thing for all santa rosa laptops you produce......

Which models havnt you heard of having stuttering issues you say? 6x25 or 6x24? Because ive written veeery long mails to zepto a few times already.

Also lots of people just in this forum are having quite alot of problems... So it suprises me a bit that people from Zepto keeps saying they havnt heard of the issue.

Do you by any chance know anything about where the bios development is going?

I dont say i havent heard of it. Im just saying, from what i have seen, the "stuttering" on the 6224/6324 is not the same as it was on the 6025/6625.

We did some tests some time ago, with different CPUs in a 6224, and depending on which CPU we used, the stuttering effect varied a lot. Thats why i believe the stuttering on the 6224/6324 is caused by bad support of the CPUs in the BIOS. But i have no confirmation on this, because it is from my personal experience with the machines.

Im sure our developers are aware of these issues, and are working hard to fix them.

That is nice to know.. a quite new theory though... doesnt quite explain why it happens when the GPU hits the magic 95/96 degrees.. or the stunning 110/110 degrees which mine can do no problem :/

p.s. notice I do mean gpu, not cpu :)

Right now. We are quite much trying to bark up every single trace when it comes to these stuttering issues. I know the CPU related problem that Chris is talking about but I'm not sure if it's actually the same as the others discussed in this (and other) threads.
But just out of curiosity, what CPUs are you guys that experience these problems having? have anyone of you tried to monitor the CPU frequency while this stuttering issues appear? and if so, with what results?

Good that you brought that up, cos with one of the BETABIOSes I had this happen, and it also showed as GPU downthrottle, wich made me think it was GPU-related, when it in fact was CPU-related.

I came to the conclusion when looking at CPU/GPU clocks, temps is that when CPU reaches a certain temp, the whole laptop throttles down, and undervolting the CPU (causing lower CPU temps) solved the whole stuttering issue.

This just doesnt fit at all.. My cpu temp is maxed at around 65 degrees now, while gpu is hitting 110/110 no problem. So for the cpu to be too hot isnt the case.

I do not know however how the bios works with the gpu temp, and throttling cpu ?! I have no gpu throttling and havnt noticed any major cpu throttling either, but ill recheck i guess.

    p.s. I have a 2,0 ghz T7250 model cpu.

    *Update*

Okay, i just tested with wow without the "sleep fix", which means stutter starts at 95 degrees on gpu. right...
So while monitoring cpu temp and throttle and gpu temp, everything is fine just until the gpu hits 95-97 degrees, the stutter starts and cpu is UNCHANGED.. nothing changes to cpu clock or throttle when this happens.

With the sleep fix, the story is the same... just moves the barrier to 110 degrees instead of 96.

thomaskc.dk have you tried undervolting your CPU? Doing this will lower the all temps on your laptop, not only CPU.

RMClock 2.35 official is now out, so Meroms have good support now.

I have undervolted my cpu since day 1.. down to 1.000V all over, thats how i keep it a around 65 degrees at max load.. and no it doesnt change anything for the gpu.

Ill look at the update though.. always nice. :)

In that case the 6625 and your stuttering issue is caused by diffrent factors. After I undervolted my lappy all stutters was gone.

Remember to exercise your right as a consumer, Thomas. Danish law garantees you getting your money back from the seller - I assume you bought from Zepto directly; otherwise, Zeptoeksperten, who in that case should fix it.

Mishaps occur with computers, but if the repair shop can't fix the same error after 1-2 attempts at trying to do so, the law (in Denmark) facilitates getting your original purchase sum back. This right goes away after 2 years - and every consumer is entitled to the service, despite what some sellers insinuate. Furthermore, if the sellers is taking too long at repairing your laptop at their first attempt, this can be regarded as the seller having used his two attempts, giving you the right to get your money back

But let the Zepto guys' repair have at look at it. Livet er for kort til at være sur, så se at få problemet ud af verden på den ene eller anden måde. :)
