I just need to clarify some stuff.

Is there a built-in mic and does it work correctly?
Is this a reliable laptop that I should be able to use very nicely for at least 4 years?
The price of my config turns out to be around 2.1k, usually when you call the store, can how low can I shave this price to.
Should I buy it now, or wait till other models come so that this could have a price drop. I'm buying a laptop for the fall of 2007 when I go to college, so I'm beginning my shopping already. Should I wait for a better deal?
Is it the best way to spend my 2k on this laptop or are there any other suggestions.
How solid is this laptop, if I drop it, when it hurt it much?

    Hmm please answer.

    1. There is a built in mic. Mine seems too quiet. I don't know if that's how they all are or not.
    2. It's been reliable for me so far, but no one's had one for four years.
    3. 2.1k seems a bit high to me. What's your config?
    4. It's nearly always a good idea to wait if you don't have an immediate need/use for the machine. Hardware keeps improving.
    5. Though it's a fairly solid machine, it's never a good idea to drop a laptop. Whether damage occurs can often be more a matter of luck than anything else.

    I agree with this post...
My two cents on the mic are (atleast for me) it seems WAY over sensitive... which makes it hard to adjust... I have it set to no mic gain, and inside the second block from the bottom. Anything higher then that causes this hell-aciously obnoxious echo that gets louder and louder the longer I hold the button down. Reminds me of feedback, but I'm not sure where it comes from since I've used both an internal and external mic and speakers.

    1. Yes there is a microphone right next to the webcam. I actually haven't used mine yet though.
    2. It's been great for the 6 months that I've had it for (system was only released about 7 months ago).
    3. $2100 does seem rather high. I'm guessing you could drop your processor to the T7200 so save a couple hundred $. If you go with powernotebooks, ask them about ongoing specials.
    4. If you don't need it until next fall, you might want to see what else is available by then.
    5. It is very solidly built. Great construction and fit and finish. I agree with l33t_c0w's statement about luck factoring into damage incurred by drops.

It's your standard integrated webcam. I have no real use for it, but I've tested it out and it works. From what I hear, the external ones available are much better...but they're not built right into your LCD lid either.

The nice thing about this one is it has a sliding cover to keep the lens clean and hackers from seeing you LOL.

The are great for video conferencing with friends, family or business associates.

Many deployed military personnel are able to "video" talk to their families back home. This is a real blessing to them :)
