Hey, I am almost 100% sure I am going to cancel my IFL 90 order, which I ordered on June 4th, simply because I need to have my laptop before august 16th.
I think it has been posted elsewhere, but I can't find it, so I'm asking what are the other, and most common alternatives to the IFL 90.
I know the ASUS G1 is one, but I dont want to get that because it is too gamey, giving me not enough battery life, and a little too flashy.
So what are some others?
-
There is the Dell 1520. Some people are happy with it, other have returned it. Unless you need the gaming power I'd get the Latitude 830 over anything on the dell consumer side.
You might look at the Lenovo T61p. The build quality will be better, but the price/performace ratio won't be as good. You might also have shipping delays.
If the Asus V1S shipping that'd be an option. If my Compal hadn't come by the time it was shipping thats what I would have gotten. I'd expect it to have worse battery life though.
The Compal is very nice though. Its worth it if you can wait. -
if i dont get a response from Justin soon, i might jump the boat too on the Sager/Ifl90 and get the G1s. Im just waiting for his email, and i know you've been waiting much longer then SOME of the people who got theres.
Edit: Its so hard to pay the extra money for nearly exact same specs.......waiting is my path

I am most likely going to get the Asus V1s.

is the Asus V1s shipping? and what resellers have it?? and when I contacted PNB they recommended the Asus S96S.. what do you guys think?
-
How are the Vostros?
-
The S96S is very good too. You can configure it to similarly (GS instaid of GT) what you wanted from an IFL90. Check it out and there is a review of the s96s on NBR's site.
Edit: The Vostros are basically 1520s so yes those are good too. just remember the bloatware. -
can you please tell me what MBR is? and if the vostros are basically the 1520s.. which one should I get?
-
whooops. sorry NBR... notebook review.

if you are willing to spend a little more i'd say go for the asus g1S
-
oh and between 1520s and vostros..id choose the vostros. Less bloatware and said to have a better quality and better support compared to home.
-
There is also the Macbook Pro and C90s. I'm a fan of Macs, so you can check that out even though its a tad bit pricey.
-
Ok, I'm not going to make friends here but for less $, the same specs and a worst look&screen there the asus "gemmmstone"!
Right?

I think you meant Acer.

im thinking the vostro or Asus S96S, can someone please sway me one way?
-
The V1S is expected at the end of August I believe.
Another option is the Asus F8SV which specs listed at 14" with a WXGA+ screen and 8600gt, but apparantly there are rumors out there that it will now be the GS inside. That will arrive about the same time as the V1S also. -
I have another thread in the "Which Notebook" forum that asks about where to get this fabled V1S / V2S, F8S, etc. in the US. All I've gotten is a link to excaliburpc.com , and I can't even bring up their homepage. Hopefully the site will come back up, because I'm pretty sick of waiting for the IFL90, and starting to seriously consider alternatives.
Anyone give much thought to the Macbook Pro? -
V1S Here
F8SV Here -
Right now you can also "pre-order" the Asus V1s from Eddie at btotech. He is offering $120 off the MSRP and free shipping.
Tim -
sco_fri: thanks for those links. It looks like I can't access those sites from the office; I'll have to wait till I get back to the hotel.
Tim: I wont have time to look up btotech on resellerratings until after work. do they have a reputation in line with PNB and Xotic?
Thanks all. -
Eddie from btotech is pretty active in the Asus forums here, so I know he is accessible. I can't speak for sales support though. I do know Xotic has stated in their on site forums that the V1S will be up for pre-order at some point as well. If Eddie gets 30 people in for a group buy at $1780 shipped, that will be very tough to beat.
-
Yeah Eddie has been on notebookreview since 2004, so I am pretty sure you would be safe buying from him.
