    Hello,

I have had my laptop for a bit over 3 years, and one day, suddenly my laptop turned off (first I thought power cut, but it wasn't). After that it would not turn on again, and there are no lights turning on, nor any sounds at all from laptop.
Looks exactly like it wouldn't have any power coming in. (Adapter and battery itself are fine).
I was wondering, that most likely it requires a new motherboard, but could it be anything else as well, or could I try to check something (have opened it once, to check all wires and tried turning on w/o hdd etc).

    Regards,
    PlatinumC.

edit - damn cannot change title, wanted to put fl90 originally.

Check the contacts of the Power Management Chips...
    Check the Power Button...
Check the BIOS (ONLY IF YOU HAVE THE POSSIBILITY --> PROMMER)...

But for me it really looks like a dead Maxim Chip. I had also this problem but with a HP nc6000 and was able to fix it (renew the contact´s; after a year a new chip was necesarry)

    Thanks for the reply.
I have been unable to find any info about IC's on Compal's, and thanks to their complicated build I have been unable to open it completely.
And if the chip is broken, I dont think I can manage to find a replacement.
But I'll keep in mind, when I have the cash to let it get checked over.
And I wish I could even get as far as BIOS lol.

You can find a link to the official service manual in my GPU replacement thread.

This make it a bit easier to take it apart.

Not sure if you can fix it ...

    Good luck!

Yeah, I have the disassembly info, but I was afraid to break it even more lol.
But anyway, if it is indeed a chip, as I said, don't think, I can manage to find a replacement for it.
Will let the place, where I bought it from have a look at it in a few weeks =).
