Hi all, new here, but have been lurking and learning for a little while. Anyway, I am researching potential lappy's, getting ready to purchase soon, but am wondering what you all think of the design with no lcd latches? It's magnetic right? Is it hard to open? Does it stay closed well? Never had one without lcd latches before.

    Thanks for your input! :mask:

There's no magnet inside, but the hinge is tight enough that when closed, it will remain closed. It's pretty tight, so it requires two hands, one holding the screen, one holding the frame to open.

Ya, I guess that wouldn't make sense to have magnets would it? :nah:

All true. I really liked my mom's E1505 with a looser (sp?) hinge and latches, but the NP2090's is very tight closed and it will lift the whole thing up if you try to pry it open one handed.

It's not the most innovative or convenient latch out there, but it gets the job done. I stick a Shaggymac in between too. :)

Would definitely recommend the laptop. Look into the WSXGA+ 1680x1050, beautiful screen.

The only laptops I've seen with this design are the ultra portables, since the screens are small and light enough to stay shut without any latches. However, because they are lighter, they don't need to exert as much force as the IFL90, so you can open them with one hand (LCD is lighter than the base). With the IFL90, that is not the case (LCD is heavier), so the latch is tighter. Hence, you'll need 2 hands to open.

It is a bit inconvienent if you are used to be able to open with one hand before (hate the 2 latch designs).
