Ok, since standby problem started to appear almost in all latest Forceware drivers I thought it’ll be useful to make clear which from the latest Forcewares doesn't cause the issue (Vista 32bit).
    With standby issue:
    181.20
    185.20
    179.28

    Without standby issue:
    167.59 (from windows update)
Unfortunately windows driver is 1 year old ant it has micro stuttering issue while playing CS:S.

With some drivers PC sometimes recover from standby successfully, but mostly fail on cold recover (~after 1 hour of standby and more).

    Please post your findings here.

(I'm sorry for misspelling the thread :) )

What BIOS version are you using. 1.18 is the latest version.

Yes, it's 1.18. It's not only I who has noticed this problem; tons of people with 8600M GT have posted about this on laptopvideo2go.
I just downloaded v179.44 Vista 32bit | HP/Compaq drivers and it seems to work properly so far.

    You might use this driver:
    Bedrijf: Nvidia Corporation
    Fabrikant stuurprogramma: nVidia
    Klasse stuurprogramma: Other Hardware
Model stuurprogramma: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
    Leverancier stuurprogramma: nVidia
    Versie: 7.15.11.7644
    Versiedatum: 3-9-2008
This driver is WHQL and should solve the standby issue.

The driver can be found on this location:

179.28 is also WHQL and it is available on Nvidia website mobile driver section but never the less it's still has the problem. Nevermind, for now v179.44 seems to be perfectly stable.
