I've had my IFL90 for a couple of weeks now, its my first laptop and I'm very impressed with it apart from one aspect of the screen. While it is very vibrant and coulourful, there seems to be a lot of light bleeding from the bottom of the screen, creating an almost two tone effect where the top half of the screen is noticeably darker than the bottom.

I'm not sure whether theres' anything wrong with the screen or whether all laptop screens are built the same way, what are everyone else's experiences?

You can get some double sided small tape, remove the LCD panel, put the tape along the LCD inside the plastic cover, hereby sticking it closer to the cover.

Mind you, it has to be one of those very thin tapes, not too thick, preferably about half-three quarters of a millimeter.

That could help with the leakage.

Hmm, I've spoken to Rizeon, the company I purchased it from and they seem to think that the manufacturer has been outsourcing the screens because of the huge backlog they had.

I'm not sure whether to complain or not, it is annoying but I don't know whether my screen is any different from everyone else's. Is this just a deficiency with this type of screen or is mine worse than it should be?

I hope this it's just an isolated case. I will be getting mine in 1440x900.

Previously I've heard good things about the screens, but as I said above because of the shortages it may be that you get a screen not actually manufactured by compal.

Haven't had many responses so far, lets see if illustrating the problem will help; this is a copy of the email I sent to customer support.

"I took some photos of the screen with my mobile phone, they aren't the best quality but they do show the problem.

In the startup screens, notice how there is a sort of "half moon" effect shining from the bottom of the screen.

In the "forum" pic notice how the topics are divided by black horizontal lines. These occur all the way down the screen but are not visible at the top and the bottom at the same time. To see the top of the screen clearly results in the bottom looking grey and faded, while looking at the bottom of the screen as it is meant to appear means that the lines on the top are not visible.

In the neverwinter pic, notice how though it is less obvious in a colourful setting, there is still a brightness emanating from the centre of the bottom of the screen.

In the system shock pics notice how the top of the screen is barely visible without moving your head. I imagine it would be almost impossible to play a game such as this as you cannot see all of the screen at once. Also notice in the 2nd and 3rd pic how the entire scene is meant to be black, in a sort of "matrix" effect, however on this screen the floor looks grey. In pic 4 at the top left and right you can see the letters "UNN" these are repeated in the middle top of the screen as well, however they are not visible in this shot. The system shock 5 pic is taken from the angle i had to move my head to for it to be visible. Finally picture 6 is of the menu for the game, note how the centre of the bottom of the screen is again brighter than the rest.

I definitely think that the screen is faulty, especially after trying to play system shock, it would be impossible with the current screen. What do you think?"

Yeah, seems like it's the panel is defective.
I suggest you to return it for exchange.
Of course, if you can take the panel off and send it alone then you can still use your notebook with an external display. (Check with your reseller first)

That does look bad. My 1440x900 doesn't look like that. I'd definitely have them fix or replace it under warranty.
