I'm having some trouble getting the built-in webcam to work in my Sager NP2090/IFL90.

I can find the camera in the device manager, it is called "usb video device" there, so I know that it is being recognized by windows. But I can't find any program or any such method which will allow me to actually use the camera, and take pictures and stuff.

    Any thoughts?

Hi Quimbos. Sometimes webcams only come with drivers and in this case you'll need to use a 3rd party program to operate the webcam. You can use Windows Movie Maker and most chat programs, Yahoo, AIM etc. to use the camera. Hope this helps.

Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places, but I can't find anything in Windows Movie Maker that will let me use the webcam. All it seems to be able to do is import already recorded video files from either the hard drive or a digital video camera.

I was able get it working in MSN Messenger, but only for chat purposes. Does anyone know of any third party programs that will let me take pictures or record videos?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

MovieMaker is only supporting DV camera, so no option for the webcam to get it working in movie maker.

Easy with the respons, mine isn't working it tells me no DV camera found.
Checked help and info for adding my webcam but no luck.

Please explain what you have done to get it working or the way to install the cam correct in Movie Maker.

You can take picture by double clicking on the camera in "my computer" if you're using xp, in vista I used smart meeting or smart tracing.

I just found that in the Nero OEM software which was included with the laptop there is a program that can be used to capture video, so that will work too.

You can also try using Dorgem (dorgem.sourceforge.net) or AMCAP ( http://noeld.com/programs.asp?cat=video). Dorgem has some weird compatibility issues from time-to-time with DirectShow cameras, but AMCAP works well for image and video capture.

When i go into moviemaker I click on capture video from a video device.

And it shows up as USB video device.

    I looked under my programs.

Apparently I have the USB device installed under USB video device.
