Hello i just got my laptop lastweek and not to worry anybody or sound like an alarmist, but i think my laptop is overheating. Today for the first time teh laptop has just shut down abruptly (no BSOD just off) for no apparent reason. So far this has happened about 5 times i think, if not then 4. Does this sound like a case of overheating and if so how can i confirm this?
My specs are cpu: 7500, Hd: 7200 rpm 80gb, Display: 1280x 800

will the laptop turn on right after shutting down? Have you ran coretemp to see what temps the processor is hitting? Is the fan coming on?
-
Im pretty noobish when it comes to laptops, so i haven't run coretemp. That's why i asked how i can confirm. My latop will turn on only to turn off soon after, the first coul of times it took like 5 minutes, but after i did the first post it crashed again and i immediatly turned it back on only to have it crash in 10 seconds. The fan does come on, or at least i hear a fan. Maybe the heatsink somehow got loose and is not making contact with the cpu anymore (if that is even what is overheating)?

You can download coretemp or NHC (Notebook Hardware Control) to check the temperature of the CPUs to find out if it overheating. I would recommend trying to use coretemp first.
Also make sure you are not blocking the vents on the bottom of the laptop.
I have attached a screenshot of coretemp, and it shows the temps on my CPUs.Attached Files:

Thanks, as soon as mynotebook cools down ill try ownloading it and posting up the results.

I couldn't get coretemp to work because i run Vista 64. Instead i installed speedfan and when it crashed it read 59 degrees celcius on both cores. Is this program reliable or am i doing something wrong here because 59 degrees does not seem hot at all.

I also do not think the fan is working anymore as i cannot hear it and the Speedfan program doesn't recognize any fans. Is there any way to activate the fan if it somehow got disabled, or to check if its broken wihtout opening the case?

Well the fan should kick on when it gets up to ~50*C, if it doesn't then there could be a problem. Have you always had issues with this laptop or is this a new thing?
I dunno how well speedfan works with core 2 duos, but it usually is close. You can try pushing F8 right before you see the windows loading screen and select disable driver signing to run core temp. -
I have tried running as administrator and disabling drivers signing through cmd and it still didn't work, but ill try F8. This problem only started two days agon and even yesterday i could hear the fan on startup. It did sound strange; like it was trying to push to much air.

here is the picture. I put DxDiag in there to show i have a t7500, but for some reason coretemp shows it as a t7200 (unless you can hide the info from windows somehow) Anyways here is a pic that i think for sure shows its overheating. I don't want to wait until it crashes because i don't want to cook my pcKeep in minfd teh temp went up all teh way to 59 degrees in speedfan, so teh temp goes considerably higher. Any suggestions or am i doomed to ship this back after a week?

Hummm if it is running at 69*C at idle then something is defiantly wrong. Where did you order the laptop from?
Try running cpu-z to see if the laptop is indeed running @ 380mhz, if so then it is thermal throttling.
I would call the company you bought your laptop from and see if its okay to reseat the heatsink on the processor. If the fan is kicking in on startup it should be working as needed.
As I type on my IFL90 I'm running at 50*C (right when the fan kicks in on low) and I don't see temps over 66*C at full load. -
I have to send it back to sager, to replace the fan. Not even a week in my hands and the laptop already needs to be shipped for repair. Does anyone know how long it usually takes sager to repair things like this (i live in South Floida if that matters)?
Thanks for your help custom90gt and dlcartin. -

You should call and ask them to advance replace you a laptop. Being that its only one week old, they should work with you a little bit. I don't know how long it would take for them to fix it though.
Maybe they can just send you the fan and you can replace it on your own? There are only a handful of screws, it wouldn't take more then a minute. Just make sure that wouldn't void your warranty. Its worth a shot to call them and ask.
