I have a Compal IFL90. Here what’s happened: I opened the cover to remove the Wireless card. My mistake was that I kept the battery and with cable charging. I removed the Wireless card and then inserted again. I closed the cover, then my notebook doesn’t charge the battery anymore and only works if the power cable is inserted. When I try the battery it simply does not power on. I have already tested my battery on my friend’s IFL90 and it is working. I have tried my friend’s battery on my IFL90 and same error, it doesn’t turn on with battery and when it is with power cord it turns on all fine, but if I pull off the power cable the notebook power off.

Windows is recognizing the battery and it even shows the level of the battery, but it shows that the battery is not charging.

When I insert the power cord, the power led blinks blue 6 times and then keep blinking amber all the time.

Does anybody has a clue that might be happening?

Thanks in advanve for any help.

    Regards,

    Sergio

You probably cut or shortcut some of the battery sensing lines. IMHO wireless adapter switch couldn’t have caused such a behavior in any way.

This is so ironic...I just registered here to ask if anybody knows the solution to the very same problem.

My story is pretty much the same as sergioi's. I disassembled my laptop and then connected the power cord & the battery (to a "raw" motherboard, you could say). It was a year ago and since then I have a "standalone laptop", since it doesn't want to work with just the battery plugged in - fortunately, it works OK when I connect the power adater.

I'm 100% certain that the battery itself is okay, since I've tried it with another laptop and it worked just fine. When I plug it into my FL90, the battery LED on the front panel stays silent for a couple seconds and then starts blinking in amber.

I do realise that this is probably not too serviceable, but if anybody has the slightest clue, I'd be very thankful for sharing it.

Since the battery is OK, the problem has to be with the motherboard. The Compals must be prone to short circuiting something related to the battery when the hardware is exposed and the battery is plugged in. I don't see what you can do about it (other than buy a new motherboard which is probably going to cost you more than being able to use the battery is worth).
