Has anyone tried getting a dvi or hdmi port on any of these...been looking around the forums and have not seen anyone mention it except to say that theres does not have it. Is it possible to talk to powernotebooks or other retailer and add one of those on? Or is it just as is?

I've been wondering about the same thing. More specifically the DVI port.

Do I need to choose the Matrox DualHead2Go External Monitor Video Controller option on my configurations in order to get the DVI port or is that included by default?

I will be hooking my laptop to a 22inch LCD monitor using DVI port. If anyone has any information regarding this, it will be appreciated. Thanks.

Alright, just making sure if I do get the Matrox option...I will have the DVI port on the laptop rather than just another VGA port. Thanks for the response.

What does it do, exactly? Just convert VGA to DVI? Why is it so expensive?

its allows u to span one output to multiple monitors as well as convert to dvi, theres a review of it if u check the news section.

voodoo, its a separate device, it will not be integrated with the laptop.

honestly imo dvi is not that useful since the screen on the laptop is very nice already, and ive used both vga and dvi output and cant tell the difference.

and really how many times will u be plugging the laptop into an hdmi screen?

I would use the VGA output if possible. There are adapters for VGA->DVI. However this will give you an analog DVI-A signal and not all LCD screens can use that. Some can only use DVI-D (digital) and then you need the matrox card. If your LCD has a DVI-A or DVI-I (I can use both analog and digital) port then just use an adapter for the VGA port.

The Matrox will not convert VGA to DVI, but it will allow you to connect 2 or 3 external monitors, depending on their resolution, to your laptop through the VGA port.

    For details see http://www.powernotebooks.com/product.php?itemId=1482

korg is correct that unless you are using a 24" or larger LCD it is very unlikely that you could see any difference between connecting with VGA or DVI, and you monitor will have both cables available.

Ah, I was under the impression it was going to be integrated into the laptop. Thanks for clarifying that. In this case, you are correct. I do not want another external device just to plug/unplug repeatedly. My external monitor also has a VGA input, so I will just use that. Thanks guys.

Worst come to worst, if you're any good at soldering, I guess physically the GF8600 should have a DVI-out pin(s) somewhere there, so, well... You can play ;)

If you don't mind losing your guarantee that is ;-) Since soldering if not even just opening of the laptop, would probably void it ;]

Really tho, there isn't that much a difference between VGA/DVI on screens up to 20-22". I think it's those HD TV-sets that might show a difference. Dunno either tho, don't have one, prolly won't get one anytime soon ;)

    Cheers & good luck.
