So I just got my 2092 and so far everything is great, just one small slight issue with the touch pad, it doesn't seem to be supporting scrolling in web browsers. I tried searching on this and found some pretty old threads but figured that getting an updated answer (if there is one) would be worthwhile. So is there something that I can do to update the driver for the touch pad to enable this feature.
Thanks in advance for any help.

That is strange because the ifl90 does support scrolling out of the box without even having to install the supplied driver... Try installing the one from the drivers cd or get something from the synaptics website.
-
Well, I tried a simple install of the latest driver, no change. I'm now uninstalling the current driver and I'll have a go at re-installing the driver to see if that fixes it. I wonder if this is the first glitch as a result of updating to Vista SP1?
And it's giving me a hassle trying to uninstall the driver, it keeps recognizing the touchpad as a ps2 mouse and now isn't letting me reinstall the correct driver. Grrr. -
Problem solved by uninstalling all of the drivers and letting windows select a default driver for the touch pad. Wuhoo!
-
Yop, touchpad works best without any drivers in windows.
-
I just hate this touchpad, it is always sending me around, once on the thermal keys, or above the text in MS words, I just don't like it, I wish it wasn't there.
-
Really? It doesn't bug me at all. The one on my 5792 was far worse.
-
... But true that this touchpad is weird, I sometimes stick on me , when I use the tap-click, I have to click the button to unstick it, or the fact that I have to lift all my fingers from it before using the double finger tap, or the fact that I can't double finger scroll.
-
I do use a mouse, but I need to type with my thumbs up otherwise I will touch the touchpad.
I do use it if I'm in a plane or else, but I normally use a mouse. I tried to deactivate it without success.
This touchpad is alive, I'm thinking of putting a plastic cover on it. -
I guess we type differently, when I type my thumbs rest on the space bar.
-
Mine too, but what about the inferior part of the thumbs? Also I'm both-handed so sometimes my hands go left and right overlaping each other going over the touchpad.
-
-
Yes, I have, it doesn't have the feature enable.
-
The elantech drivers are troublesome, but allow the mutli-touch tap, which is nice. It is obnoxious that you can't turn it off or disable it.
-
It reminds the crazy midle red button with the IBM/Lunovo laptops, you don't use it but is on your way all time.
-
-
Then I guess I'm just picky.
-
-
Wirelessman must be having really long fingers.
I rest my tombs just under the space bar too.
Ayle Boy, you'r lazy -
No, I don't, I guess is that I don't type like a secretary (no offense to anyone), but my thumbs don't rest on the space bar, my hands are kind of floating over the the KB, only my wrist are resting on the free real estate on the sides of the touchpad. As I said my fingers go left and right, very much like a piano man.
-
-
-
I see, so you are the piano man
I think it should work if you do it fast enough, unless the application is expecting the second tap in the same spot, I don't know. -
To disable the touchpad, use Synaptics driver. It works fine for me.

Thank you, I'll try it for sure.
-
so do I need to open the laptop and disable this physically, is there a plastic cover I can buy to disable it, or is there a software way to disable it?
this laptop is great. the best quality laptop I have ever had (about my 7th laptop) but this touchpad is KILLING me. I don't use it intentionally, but unintentionally it is like a typing terrorist. I end up having to delete stuff, reposition the cursor, etc...
I just want to disable it and can't figure out how. -
so the synaptics driver def works instead of the elantech one?? i hate the elantech drivers i have used in the past??
-
I used auyara driver suggestion and it worked, you can disable the mousepad within the synaptic application.
-
thank you and auyara. I somehow missed that post even though it was right in front of me.
It picked it up as a ps2 wheel mouse, but let me disable it nonetheless.
Sanity restored after 4 1/2 months of avoiding all typing on this awesome little laptop.
Now to watch the Penns hopefully push it to game 7. -
Same here, very weird, it looks like you are going to disable the ps2 wheel mouse but in reality it disable the mousepad.
Wings 3 Penguins 2, sorry! -
I guess on a good note w/the Penns losing, it frees up my Saturday.... and with the touchpad now disabled, I can transcribe a bunch of stuff I had been putting off due to the frustration of random cursor movements.
-
well i tried the synaptics.. it only "sees" the elantech as a scroll mouse not a touchpad for some reason, also i cant double tap top corner and things like that you normally can on the synaptics touchpads. i also dont see any motion from the tray icon so i assume it doesnt "see" it as i said like a touchpad.
the stock vista ones work okay but the touchpad is soooooo slow with them and i cant change any of the features i could with the synaptics before on my sager..
any other ideas?? where can i find the newest elantech driver??
thanks -
-
have you used that driver? does it work well?
or has anyone used that specific driver?
i have heard the elantech driver is a serious memory / cpu hog and it can cause conflicts ...wow those are the newest ones?? they are from feb 07? i cant believe they have not released anything newer since then..
