I just ordered a laptop from www.ibuypower.com. They sent me an email saying that they have to verify that my billing address is the same as my mailing address. Well, to do this they want me to:
a) fax all my information (SS#, Drivers license, etc.) or
b) Do a 3 way call with my bank so they can access my information
This seems odd to me. I never had to physically or verbally verify a purchase like this before. I dont want to give out all this information. It should be automatic with my bank asking for my verification. Does anyone else know anything about this?

What did you use as a payment option?

this is normal with ibuypower.. lot's of other people have asked the same thing.
they must be related to radioshack -
Are you paying with a wire transfer or something? That is insane. I don't care if they had the best reputation on the planet and were the only ones selling notebooks, I'd never give them my SS#.

No, I paid online by credit card. Ive had my bank verify purchases before, but Ive never had a company that I ordered from ask for so much info.

Like I said, Danger Will Robinson! Danger! (horns and sirens) Danger Will Robinson! Danger!

A company cant verify your purchase via a SS#. If the billing matches the shipping address that would support the AVS and they could take down the 3 digit CVV number on the back verifying you in fact are the card holder. Their virtual terminal will let them know that the addresses matched.
