Donald, we may not always like the content of your answers.
But we certainly appreciate your straight talk. Thanks.
(Now, if we could only get our politicians to do that. Silly thought, I know.)

I hope matte screens for notebooks don't go completely extinct. They're endangered enough as it is right now.

You are preaching to the choir!

Just look at this Poll and you will see that almost 2/3 prefer Matte over Glossy.

I have a bad thing with glossies with them getting scratched/scuffed and it got to be an eyesore. So I'll jump in the bangwagon and go with matte.

What monitor? I have the 17in Samsung SyncMaster 171n.

Also since my notebook LCD is also matte(its an old lappy), i hope matte
screen don't go completely extinct too.

I can only use Matte, and have that on my laptop as well as my 2 Samsung 225bw SyncMaster 22" external monitors.

Mulitple Matte monitors is the way to go for me...I spend too many hours on the computer to ever go for glossy.

I prefer the glossy screen. Use it for a makeshift mirror :D

    Donald -

Are the screens on your Samsung external monitors similar to your laptop? I have a Samsung 204b and love the screen. I'd love it to be that quality.

My SyncMaster's are not even the Prism technology.

It is hard to compare an LCD monitor with a laptop LCD screen...the quality monitor (and Samsung is the best, even if they are not the biggest IMHO) will always win.

You make an excellent point. The Matte screen "hides" scratches and scuffs much better.

It has been pushed back 3 times, and If it gets pushed back more its possible I will need to cancel the order just because I need a laptop before august..
    Is this a possibility?

    Possibility or probability?

Virtually anything is possible, but we expect to have ALL pre-orders in our customer's hands well before the beginning of August...and if we can't through some unforeseen possibility we will know in plenty of time to inform all pre-order customers and give them the chance to make other arrangements.

This is only the 26th of June...way too early to be fretting highly unlikely possibilities.

how accurate is the statement that matte is more gentle for the eyes thus causing less tiredness of the eyes and eye sore?

I think unless you are more than 2-3 feet away the glossy really shines in your eyes. And with a laptop, very often it is going to be less than 2 feet. I mean it's very bright, but also very vibrant.

I used a Matte screen for 1 year on my old laptop. I liked it for general usage. I probably would have preferred something brighter for games. However the Matte screen that comes with the IFL90 should be much better than my old laptop's screen.

I had a really old matte Toshiba.

And recently my mom got a glossy ASUS.

All I can say is that I couldn't sit in front of that glossy screen for very long.

I just found it semi annoying.

Always tilting the screen in my experience..

I think at this point, I don't care if I get a glossy or matte WSXGA screen, just that I get it.

I think the brightness and contrast ratio are really what matters.

I have an old Inspiron 8100 with 1600x1200 resolution. The brightness and contrast ratio are horrible. The viewing angle is also terrible.

I have a friend with a glossy display that looks phenomenal -- very crisp and bright. I have seen matte displays that also look great.

My main concern with buying a new laptop will be the quality of the display first... gloss/matte second.

Unfortunately it's hard to get brightness (nits) and contrast ratio information on the 2090 and also the M570RU. I've been trying for almost a week without success. Nothing in the manuals either.

    :-(.

My current desktop monitor is an amazing Sony matte screen. The colors and contrast on this thing are great. Many glossy screens can't match the contrast on this thing. I'm hoping the IFL 90 screen is the same way. That would be awesome!
