I just found out that the Compal IFL90 has an IR port next to the wifi in the front. How can I use it? Do I need special software, or hardware to make it work? Does every IFL90 have it, and is capable of using it?

Yup every ifl90 has it. It can be used for transferring stuff to phones or pda with a ir interface or for the wmc remote.

Do I need special software or can I just use a device to beam IR at it, and the laptop will see it?

IR is normally enabled as you have downloaded all the chipset drivers. If you have a TV tuner, you would use the remote control through the IR.

If I remember right on the driver CD there was something called CIR that you installed for the IR to work. I don't have my disk with me now to check it.
