    Hi,

I have just bought Compal HEL80 (core 2 duo t7200, 2gb ram) and have installed one of the win fixes to support the core 2 duo processors. Everything seems to be fine, but from time to time I get a strange feeling, that whenever I try to load any of the web pages, system hangs up for a few miliseconds/seconds and than afterwards I can use it normally (the processor use is not higher than 15%).

The strangest thing is that whenever system hangs up and seems to be blocked only thing that I can do is press the windows button on the keyboard and everything gets back to normal.

Does anyone know how to handle such a problem? (did anyone had similiar problem?)

Regards and looking forward for any advices

Since you mentioned the windows fix, did this problem start only after you installed it?

This thread explains how to set up XP to use both cores as much as it can (part of the process involves using the windows fix you've mentioned)

Try using another browser (Firefox, Opera, etc.). How are you connected to the internet? Connected straight to the modem? or through a router? If connected through a Router, maybe it's slowing down your internet for some weird reason.

Try scanning for viruses/spyware etc. (you probably already did this, I just overlook it sometimes by accident :D)

If nothing else works, uninstall the fix if you feel it may be contributing to the problem. Just be aware that you might (meaning, you probably won't) notice a performance hit if you play games/convert movies etc.(processor intensive stuff)

Hmm, to be honest I dont know what might be causing the problem, cause I did everything as it was explained in the thread you mention.

Recently I have discovered that there is a firefox thread active right after I start my computer - I just kill it and so far it helps - but it strange though.

    Thanks and regards

That firefox process you kill is probably that pre-load environment that came out recently that helps firefox load faster.

Best I could imagine would be to try re-installing your OS (clean, reformat first) I have yet to find a computer that act's the same everytime you format it.. (personality inside? (tm) :D )

You can also try to run memtest86 (do a search on google) to see if your ram is glitchy... you can also run something like checkdisk to see if there are bad sector's on your HD that might be causing your swap file to goof...

    Hmm,

Everything would be ok - but the system has just been installed (2 weeks ago), and this firefox thread seems to be causing the problem :/

So far everything is working fine (I've run different hardware tests) ...

If your looking for a quick 'oh thats it, just check this box' fix (aren't we all), we need more information like your running processes, what you've installed. Since this thread has been on the website for a few days now, I think its a safe bet that no one else has the same issue you do.

The only things I can recommend at this point then are to either to: format like Pyro suggested if its a big issue (though a few seconds is easy to get used to), or to try a program called Firetune. It doesn't really make your firefox browser go any faster (maybe 1/4th of a second faster), but maybe it'll fix the load time thing you have, though its a long shot.

    Yeah,

I figured that out - to be honest I thought that it would be more common (I am very special ;) ).

Compal works perfectly as soon as I kill that firefox thread ..

Thanks guys and sorry for bothering you,

    Best regards

ps thanks for the link: i will download it and try and than see what happens ...
