If you still use the original 8600M GT then forget about overcloking since this will only decrease its chance of survival. If you wanna oc your card then try to swap the 8600M GT for a HD3650 with 256MB GDDR3 (oc's very well) or a HD4650 with 1GB of DDR2.

To increase the CPU you would have to mod the PLL generator, the following 3 posts will tell you everything you need to know for OCing your CPU:

Depending on the CPU you have it could, however, be better to just upgrade to a 9300/9500/X9000. If you want you could try to oc them once you did this.

You can overclock GPU with tools like ATITools and Rivatuner. CPU can be overclocked only if you know the PLL number which is on the motherboard or by the trial and error with software Setfsb. Anyway that process is not that simple and you wouldn't gain much performance. You gain much more with OC GPU in terms of gaming performance.

Will the X9000 fit in the IFL90?

I don't think so, the top is Core 2 Extreme X7900. Have in mind that this extreme CPU has TDP of 44W, more than you currently have and could be a problem for cooling.

The X9000 should work (your JFL92 is basically the same laptop), even though its not worth an upgrade - I think the only problem with the FL90 and T/X9x000 CPUs will be that the thermal sensors don't work as they should. The T9300 or T9500 would be a good upgrade. However, first priority would be to upgrade the GPU to something like a HD 4650 otherwise the stronger CPU will make little sense.

The HD 4650 will have a much higher TDP than the original 8600M GT, but than can be fixed by undervolting. But then you have little room left for the CPU. However, thanks to the considerable smaller Manufacturing Technology of the T9300 or T9500 compared to the T7500 it should run cooler. The X7900 will run much hotter.

The thing is the X9000 is a Penryn. My JFL92 was specifically made as a Penryn refresh to support it. On Compal site says FL90 supports only Merom. I might be wrong though.

True, but there were no penryns out at that time. The site also says nothing about putting a HD3650 or 4560/70 in the FL90 ;-) Its true that you can never be sure about such things, but the FL90 and JFL92 use the same bios so there can be no big differences. The mainboards look exactly the same too. I was planning on putting a T9500 in my FL90, but now that I have a new laptop, I will not try this. Althought it would be interesting to clear this up. I think Ayle once wrote that the only difference between the JFL92 and the FL90 is a change in one of the thermal sensors.

However, in any case one should upgrade the GPU first, the difference between the T7500 and the X9000 in games is not comparable to that of a 8600M GT and a HD4560/70.
