Is it possible to upgrade the CPU on a FL90 "on your own"?

I opened my IFL90 (which is a little diff than the FL90) and put thermal paste, and I saw that it was just in a normal cpu slot. I expected something else since it's a laptop, but it looks like it could be upgraded. If it can be upgraded, I recommend a big leap, not a small upgrade like from 1.8 to 2.0, the performance won't be big enough for the price.

I've got a 1.5Ghz now, so I was thinking something along the lines of 1.5Ghz to 2.4+

You can upgrade your cpu, but it has to be the same time (single core, only upgradeable to singe core, c2d to c2d ect.). Find your socket type, and google it. If your cpu 1.5GHz is a Core2Duo, then it's most likely a Socket P, which you can find socket P cpus here.

    "only upgradeable to single core"

What do you mean by that?

If you have a single core laptop, you can't upgrade to a dual core, you can only upgrade to a faster single core. Same with dual cores, you cannot downgrade to a single core (not like that's a good idea to begin with lol) because single and dual core cpus are different socket types.

    mufflan, IFL90 can use T7100, T7300, T7500, T7700.
Processors that has 800MHz FSB (Front Side Bus).

That's incorrect: you can replace any processor with another as long a they share the same socket and the new cpu is supported by the bios.

And? WTF are you talkin about?! Santa Rosa platform can take any Santa Rosa CPU as long as cooling is capable to manage all of theme. But in Compal's case it is a BareBone platform and it is directed to support everything.

Guess I can upgrade just fine, posting a picture of CPU-Z CPU/Motherboard tabs so anyone can spot if I'm wrong at any point (Ignore the IFL-90 part, it's a FL-90 for sure, in example, 1280x800 is my max resolution)

You can upgrade to any T processor in the 7xxx series as long as it has an odd number...like the T7500 or T7700.

You would probably be wiser to upgrade to the T7500 2.2GHz w/4MB L2 Cache because going to the T7700 2.4GHz w/4MB L2 Cache will not give you enough of a performance increase to justify the additional cost. (We call that falling into the Intel® Testosterone Trap™ ;)

Here the dissemble guide if you decide to do it yourself. Make sure that the upgrade does not void your warranty(if you are still in warranty/want to keep your warranty).

    http://www.asimobile.com/notebook_files/fl90/IFL90_ch5-Disassembly%20Guide-intel.pdf

Also i would max out your ram and hdd before considering a CPU upgrade because it most daily tasks, you will benefit more from having more memory and a faster hdd then a faster CPU.

    Have a great New Years.

I've seen people selling FL90's with celeron M's and core duos (core1duo).

SO it doesn't even have to be a 800MHz FSB cpu, it'd seem.

    cheers.

It has to be a socket P cpu. Core 1 duos are NOT socket P so thats not possible. I am running a 667mhz fsb processor in mine, but its a socket p.
