    Hello everyone!
I have been very please with my 6224 ever since i've bought it. But now, when i least need it, something happened to my zepto.

After using my laptop at work today as usual i came home and started it up.
To my horror i saw that it showed double pictures on the screen with hints of pink in the picture. (see added pics)
And it will not boot into any OS (jaunty or vista) it just shows a black screen.

Crippity crap i said to myself...
Is the GPU fried or is it just a loose cable?

If you send your laptop in to support can you remove the hard drive and keep it? i need it because i have to turn in my master thesis in 30 days

Yes you can remove you harddisk / RAM and whatever you want =)

If I were you I should go to www.zepto.com and use the 'LiveChat' to request a RMA!

If it won't boot at all and you need your files and you have a SATA drive, you can likely access the data from another SATA system that has a compatible port. If not, and you need your data right away, click on the DriveSavers link in my signature below. There isn't much they can't recover - melted drives, busted drives, formatted drives, flooded drives, etc. Use the number (DS20785) for the account code to get a discount on the estimate if needed. The can have your data removed and back to you on an external media within a day or two if needed.

It's possible that it is booting and the GPU isn't working so you have a blank screen. If it powers up and you hear the drive spin, and the Vista sound, then it's booted and might be accessible by remote system connection if it's configured for it.

Service depots need your drive to find problems - without the original configuration of components that generated the problem, anything is a guess when trying to troubleshoot (not that anyone these days knows what the word "troubleshoot" means). Unfortunately, they don't save stuff - they wipe it and reload the original configuration software after it's repaired, unless you can work something out with them not to do that.

I'll add this to my list of "THIS is why you need to backup files regularly". I know that doesn't help or make you feel better, but it might help someone else down the road.

Give DriveSavers a call or email. They can help you - if they couldn't, I wouldn't have become one of their Agents.

    Thanks for the reply guys.

Today i was able to boot ubuntu in safety mode and i was able to recover my home folder. phew
i was also able to (in some way, dont ask me how) get rid of the double screens.

So now i can boot into ubuntu but the gpu temp is 80 degrees celsius at idle... yesterday it was 65 degrees celsius :..(

Exactly the problem I have with my 6324W and Zepto asking for £500 to fix it, in the end decided against paying to fix it and just get a new one from somewhere else.

lucky me i still got waranty! and i got myself an RMA.
Now it seems the temp are back to normal (65 -70 C at idle) and everything seems to be working fine...
i reinstalled the nvidia drivers (180.44).

Can the GPU drivers really affect the BIOS splash sceen seen in the image above?

No, but your GPU's RAM is damaged which will lead to such strange pictures. Linux' VESA driver should work fine but looks like *poo* - consider yourself lucky still having warranty. ;)

Interesting, the same thing happened to me last week, model 6224. The screen was split and the context doubled, while the background was green.
After the computer cooled down I could turn it back on, and the display was fixed. This did however only work for one day, whereafter the display kept green and split.
I could however boot into windows with the amazing great resolution of 640x480, and backup my files :)

Right now the computer is in the hands of Zepto, and I hope it can be fixed with waranty.

Sounds like overheating could have caused the problem.

The 6224W doesn't have a very generous cooling system but would be adequate if the nVidia GPU was not vulnerable to packaging failure.
