Is the Origin EON17 or 18 any good?

I thought I'd post this question in the Alienware forum as loads of the people who used to make and design Alienware computers moved to Origin when DELL purchased it so maybe you guys would know a fair bit about these comps. From what I can tell they seem to offer more variety than Alienware in terms of specs.

Also, their customer support appears to be brilliant as you have your own dedicated team who know exactly what spec you have. I've read posts here over the last few days from ppl complaining about the service and support they got with their Alienware's so I suppose this would be a big plus.

I love the idea of personalization and the fact that you can choose any colour or design you want. I know it's gimmicky but I even love the way you can pay an extra few euro for your laptop to arrive in a wooden crate to really protect it in delivery.

Do you think this would be an option to consider or should I stick with an Alienware. It looks like the EON 17 is more powerful than the 18 but not sure. Any advice would be great.

    Cheers.

    Greetings,
You are correct in that Origin does offer far more customization than Alienware. Although I'm not allowed to comment about the quality of the systems, I can reassure you that you'll be very happy with what you find. Also, be sure to read some of the testimonials. It may help you with your final decision.

    Thanks,
    Gabe

I got an EON18 about a month or so ago and it's been amazing so far--both the laptop and the support. I had a few minor snafus (one of which may have been my fault, tweaking things a little much perhaps) but I sent an email out and got one back straight away. There's a phone number too, but I haven't bothere using it yet, since the support I've had has been phenominal.

Whatever you find from Origin, you'll love it.

Just heard that the Eon 18 Has been EOL'd. I'm now looking at the Eon 15 3D or Eon 17. Think I'm gonna go with the 17 - the power difference way outdoes the 3D appeal in my opinion.

I was looking at custom paint jobs on Origin's facebook page and man are they sweet. I really wanna get one done. Does anyone have a rough guesstimate on how much Origin charges for custom jobs? I know it'll vary depending on the level of detail but I'm looking for a rough guideline. I ask because I mailed Falcon NW about their paint jobs and they told me to add around $2,000 to the build for the paint alone!!!! Dear God.

Should I buy now or wait to see if they'll be a refresh? I ask because the 18 has been EOL'd so maybe something else will take it's place?

    Cheers.

I held off on buying the 18 inch (wanted it badly) because people who own it compalin that the 5870 cards have some sort of stuttering/ghosting problem. If you haven't go read the thread in the clevo/sager section for the X8100. I figured I'd wait for the release of the GTX 470 cards, but its not being offered for the 18", and the price resellers/Nvidia is asking is crazy. The 460 card just doesn't seem to be worth money, As for the 17 inch (X7200), it seems to have psu problems (shuttiing down when over taxed??). Read about that in the clevo/sager section x7200. I am just going to pack up and wait to see what the new year brings.

    Good Luck

Cheers for that, I'll check it out.

Wat do you think the chances are of Origin to release their own style of case next yr? That would really make Origin one of a kind!

    Greetings Shuffles,
Origin PC Corporation recently became 1 year old and is still going strong. Due to the fact that Origin PC is still a young company, it would be highly unlikely to see an exclusive case design. Most exclusive designs come from a dedicated team of engineers that work closely to create a unique and individual look. Currently, I believe that Origin PC is focusing more on building computers that are customized for the user rather than devoting time to an exclusive design.

    Thanks,
    Gabe

I love mine however I travel often and have not had a lot of time to play with it. And will probably put it up on the market here next week and purchase an eon-15s only because I am on the road 3-4 days a week at times.

The system is by far one of the best I have owned I am sure you will be very happy and the guys at Origin go above and beyond in customer support.

What about the power brick? Didn't some of the Clevos need 2 cords or something to run a desktop processor and the 480/485 sli?
