Just put together a JFL92 from ZZF running Vista Ultimate 32 with INTEL 4965WLAN and cannot activate the wireless card. The switch on the front and FnF2 do nothing. Reinstalled Vista and checked functionality before installing WSS and still won't activate. Checked seating of card in pci slot, looks good. If I remove card from device manager and rescan it gets installed with correct driver. Diagnostics passes hardware and driver tests. Anyone see this before?
    System:
    JFL92
    Intel T7700
    4GB Ram
    Fujitsu MHW2160BJ
    Intel 4965 WLAN
    Vista Ultimate 32 bit

The cabled connection is working. I installed XP pro to see if it was somehow related to the OS but still is not working. Checking Intel's web site they have this strange disclaimer posted so it appears to be a known issue. I didn't find anything about it on the Compal site. I'll contact ZZF see what they say.

I see nothing strange there. That page just says that some manufacturers (like Compal) have implemented a hardware switch to turn off the radio. The page is reminding people that if they can't turn on and off the radio beacon by software that may be because they have a hardware switch and it is at the off position.

Yep, the switch is in the front beside the led's for power, battery and bt/wifi.

That's the whole point... the mechanical switch and FnF2 do not activate the wireless card.

In which PCI slot have you connected the wireless card, the lower one or the upper one.
Please make a picture and keep in mind WSS version 2.0.0.1 works the best.

Right on RePaRaQu. Originally put it in the top slot, which is what the instructions indicate, and secured it with the bracket. I noticed Sunday night that it would fit in the lower slot without the bracket. Tried and it fired right up. Problem solved. Thanks to all who responded.

Now, I do have a question, aren't those two PCI ports? Shouldn't both work?

One would think so. I emailed compal's tech support about it.

You do well, although the botton portis normally used for WLAN and the top for the video tuner, both ports are PCI ports, and therefore should work as the same.

@ Wirelessman & @ js2140: The two PCI slots are both working, but using different kind of IRQ, which will result in a not working card.
@ icey kitsune: check this website to download the WSS 2.0.0.1 and more new software apps for the Compal notebook http://service1.marasst.com/Cnotebooks/jfl92_vista.htm

But aren't the IRQ independant of the ports????? I thought the IRQ are devices dependant.

Correct and if the hardware isn't working fine because it will not get the correct power or the IRQ which is reserved for a wireless card like the Intel model.

i went to that site and downloaded the wss program from them, installed it then tried to run it and got an error saying that i didnt have the file emsc.dll. reinstalling did nothing as did doing an upgrade install. i dont think they have the right file as looking for that file has shown that some antivirus show it as a suspect file and i did not find any other information about being able to get the file. anyone seen any other places to download 2.0.0.1?

was what i was orignially talking about, as for the bizcom site, under fl90 the only wss link that i see is v1.0.0.5, or atleast the download is named that version. now i dont know if it was a typo that someone said to use 2.0.0.1 but searching online i did find that site shown above and thats what i did try to use but again, i got the error of a missing file that doesnt seem to be installed with the program itself. dont know if anyone else has used that and aslo i am using the el80. the main reason i want to get the newest version of the wss is because no version i have downloaded works now, they all say the wireless card is not there.
