    Hey Guys,

I regret to say I haven't posted on here in a while. But I have an issue related to the onboard sound. A couple years back I had a pair of headphones plugged in when my brother tripped over the cord and ruined the headphone jack. Since then I have been using a creative express card for my sound. There aren't any issues with that however whenever I dual boot linux I could never use sound since there aren't drivers available.

Now I am hoping to switch my primary OS to linux and do need some sound. Anyone know if it is possible to replace the sound board on the mobo? Or perhaps if there is a way to repair it?? Thoughts?

The headphone jack is on a small board with the microphone jack. The board connects to the motherboard with a ribbon cable. You could replace the board, or if just the jack is damaged and you're handy with a soldering iron, you could replace the busted jack on your existing board.

There is a link to the disassembly guide in this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/com...our-broken-8600m-gt-graphics-card-i-fl90.html

Depending on where you live, I could even sell you one of these ... or maybe try the easiest thing, like USB sound card ... there should be some working with Linux, too.

    Cheers
