Microexpress have the jhl90 in store for $599. There was a thread about why they where not selling the barebone but only a configurable model. Apparently it's just that we didn't know how to look for it...

That's a incredible price. I equipped the barebone and it came up to $1,400, so if you can get the accessories for $400 ($800/2), then you can get yourself a nice laptop for $1,000, ummmmm, very tempting.

Hi folks,
@ Ayle ... thanks for the link.
@ Wirelessman ... do you think is possible to get CPU and the rest of stuff for $450 + the $550 for Microexpress barebone ... for total of $1000.
Then you have no 1 year Customer Service support I guess.
Thanks,
G! -

Wow it looks good! Is that leather??? And now Compal actually give you the damn lid logo!
-
It's plastic that should look like leather
-
Yes, you would not get a system warranty I guess, but you would still get individual warranties for the components you bought separately. -
I'm really interested in buying this barebone but I have 2 questions.
1) Do I really have to pay $60 for the wireless capabilities? I thought that the jhl90 had a built in wireless card. Is this additional money for an additional add in card or what?
2) Is paying $100 for higher res screen worth it in your opinion? I'm really not sure about this one.
Thanks in advance for the input. -
Thanks for the pointer ... the CPU pins being so Fragile ... I did not realize that ... this would have been my 1st time experience with Laptop CPUs. Are the darn thing that Britle!?!?
@ Orange ... where are you getting these quotes? I think you are right about the "Wireless" ... should be no charge ... but the screen you pay fro teh upgrade ... $100!!! I thought I had seen somwething like $60 or $70 .. can't recall where though!
G! -
no the pins are not at all that fragile. of course you are not supposed to try to bend them and not supposed to touch them really but they are not going to just fall off...and even if they get a tiny bit bent they can usually easily be straightend out enough to go in the socket i use a xacto knife to re starightne them if i have to
-
Hi Z,
THANKS for the tip.
G! -
You must be good with the CPU and have experience, albeit the pins might not be extremely fragile, if you break one then you cannot glue it. Also you need to sit on top of it the heatsink, which need a paste in between. So, you need to know how to do it, but there is always a beginning for everything (including the world
) and you need to start somewhere, but imho I think CPU should be later.
-
heatsink on this is VERY EASY.. all you do is add a small drop of paste then apply the heatsink, the screws are spring loaded and have stops on them so simply tighten then criss cross wise like do 1 then 3 then 2 then 4 and do them a little at a time till they are simply just snugged up then apply the plastic bottom. this is def one of the easiest laptops to do out there

Here's what I'm talking about
I thought that the JHL90 had "Wireless LAN, 802.11a/g/n(Intel Shirley Peak)" internally included. I found that from Marasst.
I dunno for sure, I've built several desktops and am planning on building my first laptop on this barebone. Building a laptop is a bit more confusing for me because I want to make sure it has all the features I need.
I was thinking about the FL92 for a while but then I found out about the JHL90 and wanted that instead. There's a lot of online stores selling the FL92, I wonder when JHL90 will be sold like that too...

2) wsxga+ make a great difference when browsing as you can display more informations on the screen, and you get sharper images while gaming too ^^ -
Hi Ayle,
Have you dealt with AVADirect before? Are they as trusty as PowerNotebook and XoticPC?
Thanks,

Hi Ayle,
Your IFL91 looks identical to my Sager NP2092 ... are they the same with the exception that no dedicated GPU ... right!?!?
G! -
The 2092 has a Santa Rosa Refresh compliant motherboard meaning that it is compatible with the first gen penryn chips while the ifl91 is a regular santa rosa laptop, it is limited to the txxx series wvwn tough some users reported that they have been successfully able to install and use penryn cpus... Other than the motherboard they are exactly the same. Both use the 512mb gddr2 8600m gt

uhh... The link to the barebone doesn't work for me anymore. It just goes to a $1499 version with everything included...
Do you guys have any ideas on when other stores like ExcaliberPC or Avadirect will get the JHL90 in stock? Possibly August 14th? -
Hi RePa,
Thanks for the Pics ... btw, what is your screen type?
