I have recently acquired a copy of Windows 7 Professional (being a CS student rocks) and I was wondering how I would go about getting drivers onto it. I have access to the internet, and am able to wire it into my network, so getting the wlan working isn't a necessity as of yet, but I'm wondering exactly what process I'd have to go through. It was an absolute nightmare getting the wlan working on Ubuntu since the drivers are very difficult to find. Can I just use Vista drivers, since that was all I was supplied with when I bought the laptop about 6 months ago...

I'm running Windows 7 prof on my JHL90 and it isn't running nice. Compal is and won't offer Windows 7 drivers for the JHL90, problem is that the ACPI doesn't work in Windows 7. In the Release Candidate it was al working, but with the RTM the ACPI didn't work.

A not correctly working ACPI causes strange errors like a sudden shutdown on batterypower (Windows suddenly thinks the battery is empty while 2 seconds before it said it had a remaining 82% (or other number)). A sudden change of the powerplan because windows 7 thinks you (un)plugged the AC-adapter while you did not. Or saying the battery has 0% remaining while youre on AC-power.

I did try to install Smart Battery (which installs the ACPI-driver) but it didn't resolve the problems. Went back to Vista Home Premium and the problems were gone, so it is 100% a problem related to Windows 7. Other drivers are working fine on Windows 7, al devices works too. Only the ACPI causes problems, but that is the important one.

Odd, I have w7 running on my jhl90 and I have no issues with ACHI.
At least, I don't get weird problems like u seem to have.
And last time I looked at the compal download site, they alredy had a windows 7 dir set up in the JHL90 section. I assume they will fill it once it's actually out in retail.

maybe I can't find it but there is no W7 section for any NB. Probably won't be any as Vista drivers are working fine. I have JFL92, which is pretty much the same. Have no issues although not using battery so I can't comment on that. All in all, I like W7 in Compal so far.

That is strange. Maybe I have to reinstall Windows 7, but then I don't know were this ACPI (not ACHI) problem is coming from .

I don't see a Win7 dir at the JHL90 section, Compal communicated to me that they won't offer specific Win7 drivers for the JHL90. But maybe they changed their plans :D

edit Just checked the Compal website again, and now I see the Windows 7 WHQL dir for tje JHL90/91! I'm glad to see they did decide to release Windows 7 drivers.

I got the key today from my university's department and will try installing at some point over the weekend. Will check the Compal website for Win 7 drivers, else I'll just use Vista drivers. Will report to you guys on the results! :)

Lik I said, the directory is there, it doesn't have drivers in it yet. They will prolly put those in after official releasedate of windows 7. The windows 7 dir is in the BIOS section oddly.

I am currently running Windows 7 x64 on my JHL90 and its running great except there is one driver missing apparently.

Its running great right now though, love the built in support for the UPEK finger reader.

If anyone is a student and looking for a copy of Windows 7 there is a crazy student deal from microsoft online... PM me for details.

I never really used Vista (on my laptop) so I couldn't do a direct comparison. But Windows 7 is pretty awesome.

As for the driver... it is like the ACPI or battery or something. CPL002 I think... if I can recall correctly. I would check but I really don't feel like walking upstairs and turning it on to check for a driver.

splashpants, did you ever find that missing driver? I too am missing it according to device manager. Also, I started with XP on the JHL90 with AHCI turned off and never changed anything before installing Win 7 x64. Could that be related to the missing driver you think?

Also, should I try to enable AHCI, and will I have to reinstall Win 7?

I was running Vista x64 on my IFL90. I upgraded to Windows 7 x64 about a month ago and have had absolutely zero problems. I think I may have had to reinstall the touchpad drivers to get the scroll function working, but all of the other drivers just worked without me having to do anything. Vista drivers seem to be working fine for me.

You may have some issues with the Green Charger 2. Like after you install it you will constantly get a popup window on starting up Widows 7 x64 titled “GCTray” saying “EMSC.dll ERROR!” with a lovely “OK” button to click on. Not to mention that the application it self does not even work, at least for me.

To splashpants: I do not intend to steal the topic or anything but is there any chance of you knowing the key to the problem I am experiencing?

Sorry gyurmogi I don't recall that ever happening when I installed GC2. I have set the tray app NOT to start with windows and I don't even use the program. However by installing it, it managed to get rid of my driver issue. Maybe uninstalling it will leave the driver...

    Let me know :)

Well, I have installed the application but it did not solve my driver issues. I read somewhere on the forums how to get Smart Battery to work and I could only install the driver by following the method described there. But my original goal was to get the application to work. I did not experience any problems without the driver. Everything worked fine. The only thing changed was that I have only four unidentified hardware components in system manager instead of five. And three of these are “primary system devices”, if I translate it correctly. But what can these be?

the fifth one was the driver from green charge the other 4 are probably the card reader(s). Get the driver off the compal site.

I have Windows 7 and I am having a problem with the ACPI drivers and the ENE CIR driver as well. Downloaded the CIR drivers so now it shows a resource conflict.

    Code:
Interrupt Request 0x00000004 (04) used by:
      ACPI x64-based PC

    Any ideas?

:( Why are you guys having so much trouble? I had none :(

Are you guys running pro? I did my CIR driver first, then my GreenCharge (which has the ACPI driver).

Oh and the best place to download the JMB38X cardreader is from their site...

I have been unable to get the driver installed properly either. Have tried installing the GreenCharge, installs the software but still shows a missing driver in Device Manager. I assume if the driver is included there must be a way to install the driver manually. Any ideas?

I noticed looking around on the compal site in the BIOS section there is a Windows 7 folder for JH computers! So instead of going to the drivers section and choosing JHL90, choose BIOS then JHxxxx Windows7 Drivers.

Reinstalled Windows 7 and installed the drivers from that Windows 7 folder, starting with the Green Charge II, then the CIR and everything works great!

Ya that is important! Green Charge II has the required driver that the original Green Charge doesn't have!!
